Garth Nix

I just read his Abhorsen series not very long ago. I liked it well enough.:) Has he written anything else?

I thought Shade's Children was brilliant. For those unknowing, it's set in Sydney (Australia, not Canada) in the near future, when all the adults are gone and a number of mysterious super-technological adults from another dimension hold all children in slavery. Very good stuff, with lots of action and some great writing.

He has started a new series called Keys to the Kingdom. I've just finished Mister Monday, Bk1 and enjoyed it quite a bit :)

ive read all of his books, except that one that you just mentioned! im excited that he is working on new stuff..

i loved shade's children..

I've heard him described as a YA writer, but from reviews and views it seems like his work is not watered down or childish fare. I think the Abhorsen books are available here, could anyone give me an idea what to expect from them specifically? Shade's Children seems specially interesting from poly's description, but no copies here I'm afraid.

*sends you shades children*

you cant find it in a library? interlibrary loan?

the abhorsen series *could* be read on a young adult level, but like many good books there are layers..and you can read between the lines..i read these a few years go and i really loved them..enough to try to find anything else by him. to tell you the truth i don't remember a whole lot about them.. maybe i should read them again...i guess they are about this girl who is a misfit and a bit of a trouble maker..it's her story..and the story of the world at the time of her life. she is a necromancer..she goes into *death* to fight evil spirits..my description doesnt do the books justice! just read them!!

Sabriel, Lirael and Abhorsen- loved these books to bits. Will reread them soon I am sure.

I also enjoyed Sabriel, Lirael and Abhorsen, though I was not so enamoured by Mister Monday and am not intending to get Grim Tuesday unless I'm really stuck for a read.

Sabriel:

In a circa- WWI style world, a front is held against the magical lands to the north. A young girl discovers she is the Abhorsen and must travel into the northlands, full of demons, the dead, and the like, and try and do something I can't quite remember. I loved the idea of the trenches and machine-gun nests held against the northern magic. And the cat rules (impressively).

Well I bought my own copy of Mister Monday and also got Grim Tuesday today :D Been hoping to get my hands on these for a while. Anyone else reading this new series by Nix?
