requires more speed? i think so because Freya talked to the humans on K'tau (red sky) from presumably the Asgard galaxy.
Doesn't require stuff to project onto. From that article it seems the hologram requires some kind of screen to project onto. Sure there are air particles but they are so random you don't know what the direction the light would reflect to. Also how would you make sure your image wouldn't be stretched all the way from your transmitter to the place you want it to be if you use the air particles.
 
Oh yeah and wouldn't hat'taks and cheops use the same basic principle as death gliders? They'd use inertia dampeners
