What do you think of it? Do you want to see a StarGate Strategy Game? To my knowledge there isn't one out... so let's make one !;) It'll be based in the near future of the StarGate world or in an alternetive universe where you'll need an army to fight the System Lords (and not just 4 people :D ). It'll be fan made and ofcource free to download when it's ready. We'll need all the help we can get like programmers, mappers, grafics artists etc. There's much to disscuss about certain details, but first let's get started with it! :)

Game

I can't code that sort of thing, but I'd be more than willing to help do logic pathways, rough designs, beta test, etc.

First of all we have to decide what races are going to be in...
Goa'uld, Tau'ri, Asgard, maybe The Replicators...
The rough design of the game have to be made and choose the engine we'll use.:twirl:
What game will it be a 3D or a 2D...
And much much more :)
 
I'd like to see a First person shooter STARGATE game. Preferably using the Unreal Engine.
 
SG Games

There are some FPS for Stargate on Half-life maybe there are some on Unreal (search google) ;) . But there isn't a strategy game yet...
It's a new challenge, so come on if you have some skills in computers - help!
 
The SG universe is so rich there seems to be infinite possiblities for games based on the themes - I would definitely be into the idea.
 
Goa'uld units

Ok here is something specific to discuss on...
This is a rough design of the Gou'uld units as I'm seeing the in the game:
Slave
gthers naquada
can be upgraded to use a zat gun

Jaffa
has a staff weapon
heals slowly

Ashrack
has an ashrack device(Harakash similar to a zat gun in power)
can use it for mind control
can be upgraded with cloak.

Fixed base energy cannon
A fixed base energy cannon is a larger, and more powerful, version of the staff weapon. It is carried in pieces until needed, then assembled, and it can rotate on its base.

Death Glider
The standard Death Glider with two energy cannons.

Deathglider Carrier Varient
Seen in CotG. Fitted with rings it can hold about 10 passangers. It can "morph" into attack mode.

Val'kesh - Bomber
It has a turret and two energy bomb launchers which allow it to attack both motherships and ground targets.

Tel'tac
Standard Cargo ship. can be upgraded with cloak.

Some stuff that has to be in but I don't know where exactly I should put them are:

T.E.R.

Goa`uld device used to detected species and individuals capable of taking themselves out of phase with `normal` matter. They were originally designed to detect the Ree`tou but can also detect Goa`uld like Nirrti, who are capable of phase-shifting. This can be used to see the cloacked units of the enemy.

Lander

Vessel used by the Goa'uld to land large amounts of troops on the surface of planets they are attacking. A number of these vessels was used to drop troops on Rivanna when the Goa'uld Zipacna attacked the Tok'ra base there. It is unknown how many troops they can carry.
Summit, Last Stand, Redemption, Part 2

Nishta

Used for mind control from Seth and Hator

and finally a unit that resembles the Goa'uld Queen shoul also be in. :)

The Ha'tak can be used as the main structure in the game.
 
I agree ... SG strategy game may be something great!

Thank you to all that have posted here, but I'd like to here some critique on the design I've given you. Like "that should be that way" or "where's the ..." or "how do you intend to make ..." or what ever you want to say... As for being a beta tester, why don't you help with the design first and with your knowledge about Stargate. :) The game is in a phase where the beta is what you saw in my previous post :) . So test it and tell me your opinion.

sounds interesting :)

Some quick questions, will it be based like most RTS games? (command and Conquer, AOE etc?) Or will it be more 'net' based, like a MUD?

I really like your ideas you've put down, will there be more races? Such as the Asgard (we wouldn't need to many, to start of with at least) And maybe even SGC?

I like your idea, and I really hope you can do something with it :)
 
The races I'm thinking of are:
Goa'uld
Tau'ri (all of them not only SGC, but also Tollans or any other race that come from the earth)
Asgard (maybe with some help from the Nox or any other of the Four races(furlings and Ancients, but we have to see them in the show first :) ))
Replicators (let's make first the other ones then we'll see)

The first release will be plain RTS (Starcraft, Warcraft...) then anything can happen ;)

Some more questions, if you don't mind.

I take it the game will be based on an existing engine? (basically a mod)
 
I'm still searching for the best engine... If I can't find a strategy game that has a good 3D engine then we have to use the
OGRE :: Object-oriented Graphics Rendering Engine

and code everything else ourselves... That will be the hardest one and It'll take very much time. :rolleyes:
Do you know a modable strategy game that has a good 3d engine? :cool:

i thought about this:

each race has it's own unique unit (at the end of the campaign), whitch is extremeli strong, for example HUMANS have something like X-304, goaulds something like apophiss ¨superspih and asghards maybe O'NEill class spaceship...

That is a very good list, but why make something up like X304 when there is a X303 :)
X301 - I don't think we should use that because it don't worked and actually got replaced by X302 (or am I wrong on that one?)

As for copyrights - this is a fan made game which won't be sold. It will be free to download when ready :)
 
Hi,

I started a SG Mod about a year ago using the Quake 3 engine which sort of fell apart.

I would love to use what I have done so far, and continue the MOD, using the new Unreal 2 engine, or the Quake 3 (probably better because all source has been released). These two engines are by far the best platforms for a First Person SG Mod. I have extensive knowledge of mapping, scripting...all we would need are modellers, texturers, and sound makers.

Rather than thinking about what races etc. are needed, the first step to get a grounding...the team of mappers, modellers etc. would need to be created, and then they can discuss where to go from there.
 
The game will most likely be built on the Warcraft 3 engine so if someone has skills in the World Editor or in gmax, then please help! :D

I can create something in Warcraft World Editor, but we need GRAPHICS !!! Thats what we need !
 
I have to say a 3rd person strategy game based on the stargate universe will kinda suck. A FPS will suit the stargate so much better!!!

Oh... C'mon man what's your problem there are so many FPS based on the stargate theme and so many that are 'work in progress'. Why not make something NEW, something CREATIVE?

Well the game will be a TC of WC3 so you have to know how to use the files in the war3.mpq and probably we have to make a completely new war3.mpq... Have you used a program like WinMPQ?

We indeed need graphics :) so if any one have the skills in modeling or skinning... tell me :)
