I am starting to build a Stargate MUD out of SWR 1.0 Code. I don't know if anyone here likes playing MUD's or not, but here it goes. I'm researching to find out what are some basice things that people who would want to play a Stargate MUD would want in there. Right now I am planning to put in the following:

Staff weapons
zat guns
ribbon devices
healing devices
sarcophaguses (however you spell it)
transporter rings
Stargates (duh!)

The MUD will be set in the future farther along so there won't be any conflicts with the current plot. The two major clans will consist of the Tokra, Humans, Asgard, Nox, Tollan (Called something or another) vs. the Gou'uld System Lords. If you think something should be added or if I missed something, just send me an e-mail at:

VIVIXstargatemud@hotmail.com

Ideas, or just general questions will be greatly accepted. The stuff listed above are just the general building blocks, I will think of more stuff, just seeing if anyone who plays MUDS would be interested in playing it if I put the time and effort into it.

Gaming

I've never been able to make heads or tails out of a MUD, but if you're willing to help a total newbie, I'd like to see what can be done. :D

Time

Another note. This is my first time ever building in SWR (Star Wars Reality) or coding with C and C++. Obviously it's going to take a while for me to figure things out and get the ball rolling, all I can say is that it's a lot of reading. The post above this, the ships listed are great ideas and I'm taking note of them, if you've played any SWR's there are tons of options on making ships. I was also thinking of making pyramid ships and pyramid landing spots to. I don't know about the energy cannon thing, in MUD's it's kinda hard to get a bunch of people to carry stuff and then work together to build it, due to RL situations and timing. I also seen the game that's being build using the Tribes 2 engine, looks sweet. But if you know anything about building SWR and coding with C, C++ it'd be great if you e-mailed me with tips or the whatnot.

I always hate to be mr pessimistic but the reason there is always doubt here is that we've seen it all before. People having a fantastic idea, getting work done but then just folding, either because they don't have time, enough staff or they do't want to release without a license and give up (even when they don't need one strangly enough)

Now, we arn't saying we don't want one, we do and if you can pull it off and deliver us a stargate game then you'll be heros, but are never very confident on the matter, we've had our hopes up before and had them shattered.

However don't let this put you off, let is inspire you to be the first to pull it off :)

Help

Hi
VIVIX::
I've never heard SWR before... (sorry :() I tryed to play some MUDs but that wasn't a good expirience :D

C'mon no one can do a complex game all alone... And the stage where it is now I need just the help of some people, that like and know the StarGate universe good, to help me with the concept...
Take a look again and see if you can give some opinion :)

Yeah, I realize that this happens to most ideas, I have also seen it many times before. Right now I'm not doing it completely alone, I have a friend that we've been "mudding" for a couple months together and he's helping me get a server so I can look for some real help to get the games on the role. As I have mentioned before, this is going to take a long time. I am just starting to fill out applications for college and all that fun stuff so I'll be working on the mud every so often until I get to and through college. I have looked at the other ideas and I'm thinking about how long and tough it would be to code them into the SWR (Star Wars Reality) code base (still trying to figure out how to compile it with cygwin) there is lots to learn and eventually I will learn it. But thanks for the anti-anti-support. Keep sending ideas to, some of them are pretty good.

MUD vrs 'game'

I have to admit that, for myself, I am more likely to play a PC oriented game than a MUD. MUD's have always seemed cumbersome to me. I enjoy graphics.

But YMMV.

VIVIX, as you're at college, have you considered getting together with like-minded people at your college, and possibly neighbouring colleges, and setting up a Stargate Live Role-Playing Game, like the national fantasy LRP game, 'Fools & Heroes'?

Our daughter has been playing for several years now, and has a great time. She calls herself a 'second generation role-player' as husband and I started playing in the '70s. :D

Best wishes,
Hatshepsut
