That was a dam good episode, and i needed it after the pathetic Stargate episode just before it.

Let me think on the plot and Ill try and see how it fits in the grand scheme of things.

I agree, I have a plot summary but I always forgot little things, so correct me if they are important.

My question last week was answered: L.U.D.-7 was determined to have suffered "Structural inadequacies."

Neil and Chuck investigate an LUD-7 type lab, and a man with a cross-hatched rash on his skin. Chuck gets scratched by him on the hand, and infected by something. Antibiotics don't seem to have an effect, but it heals up too fast to be normal.

Chuck gets the dreaded rash, and his temperature falls to 93ºF (Paige said that, Kurt would never have used ºF) He begins to not need sleep, food, or the toilet. He carries out fantastic mental arithmetic problems easily (was the whole purpose of the decorating sub-plot just so he could count paint cans and rolls of wallpaper?)

He speaks in a Goa'uld type voice "Something is connecting me to them, something is calling!"

Kurt and his cyberpunk friend from 'Rapture' discover that Chuck is infected by nanobots (they call them nanites first, which is what Wesley Crusher invented, but then only call them nanobots afterwards.) They must have a hive-mind since they are working together in unison. Kurt and Neil work on a way to intercept the nanobot communications signals.

Paige turns up in a foul mood, demanding to see Chuck, and to know what is going on. Chuck shouts at her, she slaps Neil and walks out. She tells Marc his father has left home. Marc meanwhile is still failing his exams and Cynthia Hodge asks him to spy on Chuck in return for ensuring that he stays in the astronaut training programme. He finds pictures of the Project Brightsky lab platform hidden in a book. (So what? Chuck has pictures of satellites! My word! He's a astronaut!)

Two synthetics turn up to take Chuck but he refuses to go. By now they determine half of his brain is synthetic. He gets a phone call, a weird loud noise that summons him to the sentient "that created him."

After communicating with the sentient, something inside him still is human and pulls him back (his soul says Sarah, Kurt scoffs at that.)

But he has learnt the nanobots language, and escapes, then uses an car radio aerial stuck in his arm and his laptop, to speak to them and reverse the process. (Hmmmm! That might just work!)

Meanwhile, Paul has taken Corey away to keep him safe from Sarah. He takes her to a family court because of her apparently irrational obsession that their son will get cancer; which she loses, and he gets custody. Cue all the pulling-my-heart-strings scenes.

Angela must still be sitting in her tin can.

Paige asks Chuck to tell her the whole story from the begining. (has she got a few weeks to spare?)

Kurt begins an experiment with two vats, one embryo, infra-red lamps, and a chemical in a dropper....

(they call them nanites first, which is what Wesley Crusher invented, but then only call them nanobots afterwards.)

LOL Dave I luv you man hehe

The whole turning into a synth was great, It moves away from the "grown in a tank" theory. The way Chuck who is a strong minded character anyway was able to withstand the full conversion. The jabbing of the aerial in his arm to transmit or recieves the nanobot signals was a bit dramatic and i think unecessary. The gathering to the sentient explains a little more and shows how vulnerable they "could" be. Now that Chuck discovered how to reprogramme the nanobots can they and will they do it again to recover sentient controlled snyth humans or did Niel and Chuck forget to save it?

As I predicted Mark has become a pawn to the cadre but what are they going to do when they discover (and its only a matter of time) the link between Chuck, aliens and time travel. That has to be a key issue becuase the Cadre surely cannot be working to the destruction of the Earth. Now they could use the info to discredit chuck and (which i think is thier aim) but in the same sense they must look at project bright sky etc in a new light.

Time seems to have fulfilled itself with Sara who has lost her child (not in death this time) to her husband who has taken corrie away. But it looks like she will find solice in her new bossand have the affair and her timeline will complete itself.

Chucks wife at the providing the faith for Chuck was touching, underneath his fly by the seat of his pants space jock no bull attitude is man whos values are family governed. Without paige he is simply nothing despite his achievements.

The ending was very intruiging, good ole Kurt always one to suprise,

Hes growing an embryo to what end we dont know. He could be just trying to discover the Sentient/Synth process or there could be a more sinister approach to this remember it looks like he has not revealed this to the rest of the 5.

Favourite line

Chuck in the cafe,

We can just about find our ass with both hands

hehe makes me chuckle that one

Just popping in to say that this was a great ep - you'll have to wait til the weekend to get more reactions outta me ;)

Here's something to think on though - Kurt's experiment we saw at the end? Was it an experiment? It gave me a very bad feeling, like he had secretly been 'turned' or something....

Yeah, it give me too a bad sensation, not necessarily that he wasn't working against them but that he could make some mistake working and at the end he have some part on the destruction of Earth. Do you imagine?

This was a great episode, I specially enjoy all the thing about Chuck's change, it was cool and interesting. The thing with Paul and Sarah was definitely coming because all the things sadly would have to end that way I suppose. Very sad but not a shock. :( The thing about Mark was also not a shock but a surprise that he was capable of betray his own father without much remorse.

This really was an interesting episode.

The Earth has already been destroyed, now one could argue that the fact they have been sent in time to save the earth could infact be the very reason why the Earth is destroyed in the first place,

Cause and Causality

But the very fact this has happened on 50 other worlds over the last 300 years has pretty much ruled that out.

So no Kurt wont destroy the Earth he will be his normal "arrogant" I need to know self and probably will put them all in danger.

Makes good watching though hehe

Funny how things bug you...

This plot line (although good) the use of nanobots and the criss-crossing on Chucks skin reminds me of another Sci Fi write Greg Bear. His book "tangents" is a short stroys book of which the first story "Blood Music" is about a scientist who created nano bots for medicinal reasons but injects himself first without any tests. The results are similair that he gets the criss-cross on his body as the nanobots redesign his body to work better. As always ends badly (or does it?)

It was published in 1988. A great book from great writer. I highly recommend his story "Eon".
