This new season has darker and more serious characterization, a much edgier, grittier plots - meaner. I like the direction the series is going, making it more substantive and realistic in these anxious times we live in. At the same, Carpenter is great and keeping the series light and entertaining, maintaining the fabulous balance of darkness and lightness that makes this series as brilliant as Buffy or Charmed.

i hope season 4 wont be too dark and serious. i think that they should have some humour too. i dont want it to turn out like the last season of buffy, that was just plain depressing. i watch the telly for entertainment, not to make me feel bad.:rolly2:

Drama and Humor - A Delicate Balance

I agree that I don't want something that's depressing. There's too much of that in reality. The success of this genre along with Buffy and Charmed is the scriptwriters' ability to blend the serious drama with the youthful light humor that seems to prevade all these series. I do like though how this season exudes with a more mature, complex depth of character, dramatic, seriousness - yet I do believe that they've been able to keep the lighter side with a number of good comic lines that really keeps me coming back for more.
