Glory Road (Robert A Heinlein)

Can't think of any scene in the book that bears any resemblance to this whatsoever. It's not quite as bad, though, as some of my favourites...

All genuine published editions...:ROFLMAO:

Whe I first read Glory Road, though one thing did surprise me:
the success of the Quest is not the end of the book.
I think this was the first S&S/Fantasy book that I had read at the time where there were consequences to
killing the Big Bad and retrieving the McGuffin.

unless there is a book called I Lost an Ugly Thing Somewhere.

"Sir Sergeant officer sir, but these things are ugly. Why don't we just lose them somewhere, sir?"
"Wrong, trooper! Losing ugly things somewhere is what got mankind into this damned dirty mess in the first place. Once you lose an ugly thing somewhere, you open the door to weakness and corruption. In the Federation we leave no ugly thing behind. Do you hear me citizen!?! Now hit yourself with a stick."
And you know what? The Sarge was right.
