Hi, My name is Tim i need help. Ive been watching Stargate SG-1 since the begining of the 2nd season. I have since become a huge fan. the only problem is that i have no idea about how to get information on the conventions. I want to go to one, for the first time, but dont have any ideas or knowledge on them. So if any one could please tell me of sites to visit or give me dates and places, anything that could help me get to a convention, i would be very grateful.
thank u for ur help

TIM

Hi Tim,

If you tell me where your from, I will point you in the right direction to your closest Convention.

(unless you do like so many others who really don't care where they are... They just need to be there LOL)... And beleive me... there are a lot that travel half way around the world to go to conventions :D

Cons

I think between between Gatecon and I, we can probably find you some places to go. ;)

thanks for the help, and if u didnt know i live on the east coast of the USA and may have problems getting to some but hopefully will be ok

Cons

Okay. There is currently a weekend gathering being planned in the Chicago area just after the new year. Gatecon in September is *the* biggie: That's in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Not sure who all will be there guest star wise, but it's always a great group and a lot of fun packed in four days.

Info for GateCon: will be here as the year progresses. We're still getting over the last one. ;)

There are a couple of e-mail lists that might help you find folks and cons. "GateGoers" is a list dedicated to fans who are going to GateCon, but there are other small gatherings that are under discussion. "Wolf Events" just had a convention in the UK and usually have something every few months. There are also several regular SF cons in and around your area. "Eclecticon" is a media convention [the written word - fanzines and such] in the Newark area this Nov. The websites also lists some other conventions to help give you ideas.

In Jan - and possibly later in the year - "Best of Both Worlds" will be hosting Michael Shanks, Lexa Doge & Chris Judge in Sydney, Australia [sorry for my spelling, Allen].

That's what I've got off the top of my head. I live in the Pacific Northwest near Seattle, Washington.

and are there any sites that u know of that have like listings of like all conventions. not just by a group but like all of them.

help

thanks Rowan for all the help, ive been looking over all the links u posted, and then their links, and then their links...............
They just go on and on. i have another question, Are there any other conventions on the East Coast that deal only with stargate? cause i tried to find out and got drowned in the sea of links to other sites. At this point i think im gonna give up on trying to go to a convention, EXCEPT for Gatecon, that seems like one I definetly want to attend.
well thanks for the help

Tim

I have been to the past 3 Gatecons and have already purchased my ticket for the next one.

If you can only make one a year this is the one to plan on IMO.

People are great, they usually have a tour of sets in Vancouver and the last 2 years we have been lucky enough to be able to tour the Stargate Set, and take all the pictures we wanted to.

it sounds great, but i have no idea what im gonna be doing next year or even if i can go, how im gonnaget there, and so on. i also want to know if there is a date i should decide by for buying the ticket, and do they sell out?
tim

Hey Rowan can u explain to me what it means to be a voulenteer at Gatecon, what are the benifits and why is it difrent from just getting a regular 4 day ticket
thanks
tim

Volunteers

Volunters pay for the same ticket as everyone else. They agree to give at least 4 hours of their time doing something: manning registration, helping in the dealer room, help to keep things moving along in the photo and autograph sessions, etc. The more experienced forlks - usually those with specific backgrounds//experience or have worked GateCon before - do stage work, assist as guest liaisons, etc.

Then there are some of us who manage certain departments: I handle the registration desk, you'll find Simon [General Si] manning the payment computers for sales in the dealer's room, etc all [we both play medical]. Ladytree orginizes all the volunteers, her husband Tim/Wolfpac manages the security staff. We're full timers and honestly don't see much of the con itself. But we have the satisfaction of see the fun everyone is having.

And the guests get to know you over the years...

... and then the fun really starts. :}

I'm a 'service junkie' [In the SCA, we call them 'Members of the Order of the Pelican' :} ]. I enjoy doing something where others can have fun and I have fun doing it. GateCon has been a wonderful experience for me over the years and by volunteering, you make sure *everyone* has fun.

And 4 hours isn't all that much - Ladytree works hard to make sure you don't miss something you've got your heart set on seeing or being involved with. The volunteer 'day' runs from 1000 to 1700, so evenings are free from a work shift.

I hope this makes sense.

i think i get it but im afraid im most likeky gonna go with a regular ticket
thanks though
tim

Sorry

I'm sorry I didn't make sense. There is only one kind of ticket. There are no special provisions made for volunteers. They pay for the same ticket just like everyone else. They just donate 4 hours of their time at the con to help out, is all.

Gatecon

Hi and welcome!!! I've been to all 3 Gatecon conventions and have to agree that if you can go to only one con a year this is the one to go to. I have pictures from the first 2 on my website and am working on the pictures from this year now. If you'd like to see them go to: http://kimsadventures.com Just click on the Gatecon link and you're there. There's also a bunch of links at the bottom so have fun!!

I really have to echo the sentiments of everyone else here - Gatecon is the one to go to.
I went this year and had a great time. It was my first Gatecon, in fact it was my first time at any convention outside of the UK, and I didn't know anyone there, but everyone that I met was really friendly. I met sha'uri's smile just before Sekhs Party and a few other people as the first couple of days went on and had a great time just talking with them.

The staff were great, making sure that everyone enjoyed themselves as much as possible and that everything went more or less according to plan.
All the guests were unbelievably cool, much more like us than I thought, having met some really pompous celebs in my time at the UK cons. I'll never forget what Don S. Davis said to me at the autograph session; 'I bet you never realised we were such goofs' - that made me laugh.

Also the auction is a blast with so much madcap stuff going on(and I was told that the one this year was tame compared to the one in 2001 :D )

If you do decide to come I'll look forward to seeing you there!

WEll lets put it this way. i have no clue what im going to be doing next year around the time of septomber, except that i am going to Gatecon, im gonna be buying my tickrt before the month is out:rolly2: :D :rolly2: , and i hope to see all of u there

:rolly2:
