Hey Gang,
As you all know JAD, Shaz and I attended the Amanda Tapping Convention in Sydney on Sunday.
What can I say? It was frelling awesome!
Amanda is the sweetest, nicest and generally most delightful person. She was incredibly funny and had us all in stitches. She spent an extra half hour on stage on top of her scheduled hour, and spent about 4 hours signing autographs for the 200+ people that were there.
Even more wonderful is that she knows of Ascifi.com and has been here before, reading through the forums. When she mentioned that she visited Ascifi, Shaz, JAD and I started screaming out so loud telling her that that was where we were all from. She thought it was great.
We gave her a gift and a card on behalf of the entire Ascifi Aussie Contingent.
Here's some tidbits of news:
- Amanda will be coming back for the 7th season. She said that having one more season will allow them to do a perfect wrap up of the show. All the actors are very happy to do one last season.
- She is very happy to see Michael Shanks returning full time for season 7.
- She will direct an episode in season 7 but it is not known yet which and when.
- Her husband Allan is appearing in a cameo in the season 6 episode Smoke and Mirrors.
- As Shaz already mentioned, she split the audience in two and made us all sing Row Row Row your boat. It was hilarious.
- She spoke very fondly of her time with Stargate and praised the writers, directors and crew for their hard work.
- She climbed the Sydney Harbour bridge on Saturday despite the fact that she is afraid of heights. She said she loves Australia and the people were fantastic.
- She helped out in the charity auction. Her Wormhole X-treme tee-shirt went for about $500 and RDAs jacket went for $2000.
We all had so much fun meeting her.
The experience was made even more wonderul by Rob, Robbie, Amanda B and the gang at Friends of Science Fiction. Their main concern was that everyone who went would thoroughly enjoy themselves, and everyone did. This was their 8th convention and in all the years they have been doing it they have never had any guests cancel, nor have they ever had any problems. They were all so professional and their crew of volunteers were friendly and helpful.
The whole event ran so smoothly and not one person went home dissapointed. In all honesty they did a superb job, and their conventions definetly outshine previous Stargate conventions run by another organisation in the Sydney area.
