Not for the rumour camp - James Earl Jones has confirmed that we will all hear his terrifying tones in the third prequel:

From scifiwire
Jones Back As Vader

James Earl Jones told the Toronto Sun that he will reprise the voice of Darth Vader in the upcoming third Star Wars prequel, Episode III, in 2005. Director "George Lucas says, 'When Anakin goes bionic—that will be in the last five minutes of Episode III—they will hear you."

Jones also expressed approval of Hayden Christensen, who played Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode II—Attack of the Clones. "Aren't you impressed with him?" Jones asked the newspaper. "I like his whole bearing, the spine, the neck. ... He's like a snake."

Why does Anakin need a voice simulator though?

His own voice is perfectly audible at the end of 'Return of the Jedi' when Luke removes the black face mask and holds him as he dies.

BTW I don't think that's a spoiler :D

(Only my son confusingly refers to RotJ as the 'New one', since it was the film he saw last of all (he saw it on TV last week for first time, but he had already seen eps I, II, & IV at the cimema and ep V on TV last month. So, there are possibly other kids reading this who haven't seen it either.)

*inconsistency alert* !!!

Perhaps he took on the voice simulator in an order to disguise himself. We still don't know beyond shadow of a doubt that Sidious is Palpatine, perhaps when Anakin first turns and begins to hunt down the Jedi it will be expedient (for whatever reason) to disguise himself also.

mabye it was cuase after he fell in the lava his throat, and consequently his voice box were injured beyond repair, and he or course did need to sound Scary for the troops:rolly2:

Does Vader need a respirator - is that why he wears a helmet?

If yes, then that would explain why he needs a voice simulator.

I'm not sure why he even wears a helmet. Possibly becuase it's scary!

yes VAder does need a respirator, the suit he wears including the helmet help keep him alive:rolly2:

Without the suit Vader would die as seen in Jedi. The suit supposedly helped him breathe. Also this is why Vader never used force lightning like Palpatine in Jedi.

no i just think that vader never learned force lightning, or never went that far into the dark side, not really sure on this point though:rolly2:

There was no reason vader couldn't have learned force lighting. He had the potential to become the most powerful jedi (or sith) there was.

It's more likely also that palpy kept him on a tight leash. If vader did get too powerful (or REALISE how powerful he could be) he might've overthrown palpy long before rotj. :)

oh im sure he would have, but i dont think he ever felt the need to learn force lightning, i mean other then palpatine he had no equal in a fight, and that was just with a light saber:rolly2:

Also, there's nothing that says Vader didnt' learn it. LOL

After all, it's simply using the Force to manipulate energy, and he shows he can do this when he absorbs those blaster bolts Han shoots at him in ESB. (wonder if he could handle a lightsaber, hmmmm)

So it's entirely possible he was able to, but chose not to. :D

He seemed more like a "do it personally with your hands" kind of guy. :D

yeah he was definetly the kind to do his the work himself, i mean he was so feared that he was the perfect little enforcer for palpatine:p:rolly2:
