jonas in season 7...or lack thereof

Thanks for the article, Skydiver.
Although I'm a major Danny fan I really hoped that TPTB would find a way to have both Danny and Jonas in the new season...it would offer them infinite plot lines for the two characters...:(

Some third party news re Corin

I thought you might be interested, it gives a little hint of Jonas' possible involvement in Season 7, although obviously it is third party information. It was forwarded to me on one of the other lists. Credit for the piece is given to Ann Wortham:

EXCLUSIVE news from Vulkon: Corin Nemec's future plans and upcoming merchandise from Lightspeedfineart Stargate fanclub

Vulkon, Orlando
16-17 Nov 02
Ann Wortham

Our thanks to SDJ Steerer Annie for her *exclusive* news report from Vulkon. Annie was able to talk with Gary Hasson of Lightspeed Finearts Inc, which runs the Stargate SG-1 fanclub for MGM. Mr. Hasson reported that Corin Nemec is very happy working on Stargate SG-1 in his role as Jonas Quinn. Corin withdrew from Vulkon at the last minute because he was
offered a film role. The working title of the film is "Syllabus" but the official name is not yet known. Corin doesn't yet know how many episodes of Stargate in which he will appear in the seventh season, whether it will be five or ten, or whatever, but his involvement sounds similar to that of Teryl Rothery, who plays Dr. Janet Fraiser.

Mr. Hasson gave Annie some exciting details about upcoming merchandise from Lightspeed Finearts Inc, including a 200 picture CD (which will have many Daniel photos) and a specially designed hard box for the new membership kits. He also indicated that they will be interviewing Michael Shanks for the fan club newsletter in a week or two, when Michael returns from South Africa, where he is filming "Sumuru", a TV movie/pilot for SCI FI parent network USA.

(Note from Ann: Feel free to forward, but CREDIT for this exclusive news goes to Ann Wortham and Stargate SG-1 Solutions.)

Obviously there is some merchandising info in there, but I didn't want to edit the piece.

In full . . .

The SCI FI Channel confirmed that Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge and Don S. Davis will return as regular cast members of the channel's original series Stargate SG-1 in the show's upcoming seventh season. Corin Nemec also returns in the recurring role of Jonas Quinn. Tapping reprises the role of Maj. Samantha Carter, Judge plays Teal'c and Davis returns as Gen. George Hammond.

Earlier, the SCI FI Channel confirmed that Michael Shanks was coming back as a regular cast member, playing Dr. Daniel Jackson and joining series star Richard Dean Anderson as Col. Jack O'Neill. The network earlier this month announced that it had renewed the show for a full 22-episode new season.

Production on the new season is slated to begin in Vancouver, B.C., early next year, for a summer 2003 launch. The remaining original sixth-season episodes will resume on SCI FI on Jan. 10, 2003.

It's not entirely relevant to Season 7 or the lack of Jonas, but it's interesting to note that the writer Joe Mallozzi has posted on the forums he visits that he is 'retiring' from them at the moment.

Because there is a whole vitriolic issue going on now between various forums about the matter of Daniel returning and Jonas being relegated to recurring character, I wonder whether he has either made a personal decision to back away or whether it has been suggested that he should by his bosses. Things are hotting up over all this to the extent that the arguments are as violent as they were when Daniel left. If I were MGM and co, I would want to put some distance between online fandom and the staff of Stargate as well.

I am absolutely delighted to see that on this forum, whilst people have posted their delights, disappointments and views, nobody has actually threatened violence or come to blows! I always knew that this was one of the best to belong to. A virtual haven of peace compared to others! Although I do find the eruptions on the other lists and forums rather fascinating. Call it morbid fascination if you like! To my knowledge Joe Mallozzi doesn't visit this forum, which is probably a good thing to my mind. I'm not sure it would be a comfortable place to be where we can all discuss things rationally or irrationally if the fancy takes us, if we were aware that TPTB were always tapping in.

I still think that Season 7 is a mistake and the return of Daniel and recurring role for Jonas is only fanning the flames of issues which should never have occurred in the first place.

There is an online stargate community outside of ascifi?

Next you'll be telling me that stargate isnt real life :alienooh:

SAVE JONAS!!!

Oh there's a positive bounty of them! LOL I won't name any of them because they might get annoyed and it doesn't take much to annoy some of them.

And of course Stargate is real life! How could anyone think otherwise.

 :erm: :errrr: :disturbed  :iiworry:

first off yes RaTY there is a stargate community outside of Ascifi:rolly2: Now in my opinion i think that thoose articles may be exagerating a little. or mabye its just my hope that we will get Sg-1 with 5 members in it. First off i think that it would be unfair to bring Jonas up to fill Danniels role just to kick him back out again. Seconed i like Jonas and dont wanna see him noecked back to a seconed rate role.:rolly2:

I agree, I don't think they should have continued with a season 7. It'll be fun to see Daniel regulary again, but I was hoping that they would end it while it was still new. I've barely seen anything from season 6, but what I've seen have been perfectly acceptable. I'm not saying that the writing will suddenly turn rotten just because they're having another season, but as with all shows, for each new season, there are less and less original and exciting ideas...

And about the violent discussions in the fandom... Sure, I was disappointed that Daniel left, and I may have been a bit anti-Jonas in the beginning, but you gotta keep things in perspective. I'm not about to flame Brad Wright or any of the writers because of that, in the grand scheme of things, what does it matter?

I also find it fascinating how conveniently it was forgotten that MS actually left on his own accord. Most places you go to, it was a "conspiracy" that made him leave. Must have been a rotten conspiracy since he's coming back...

Coming to the point, I hope Jonas gets good screentime, he could be a really interesting character to continue building on if they can resist the temptation of Mary Sueing him.

On a german page it said Amanda said on one of her two convention appearances in Australia that Jonas will appear in 6 out of the 22 new episodes of season seven.
Can anybody confirm this?
I just read the transkript of her appearance in Melbourne, but she didn't mention JQ nor CN then.
So it must've been in Sydney...*if* it's true...

oH YES, there's a huge honkin' Stargate community outside of this forum, and fortunately the squabbling and whatever haven't come here.

It will be interesting to see how the writers wrap up season 7, to lead into the movie, or whatever.

No the squabbling hasn't touched this forum and I am glad for it. It's a haven, somewhere I come back to again and again, just to read the posts, have a laugh and sometimes a discussion when I think it needs one!

I may not often post these days but I do always come and read.

:D ;)

the alledged 6 episodes for jonas is a fallacy. since only the first script is written, they literally have no idea how much or how little he'll be in.

alledgedly Jonas will be in the first two...now will he hang around or get shoved into a convenient storage closet to make room for daneil's return...who knows?

He could be around as little as Jacob, or as much as Hammond. time will tell

I think how they handle the Jonas issue could make for an interesting storyline. We are about halfway thru season 6 here and so far I think Jonas has failed to find his own place amongst SG1. Not that he isnt good, I like the character, but too often he still seems to be just "filling in for Daniel". With daniel back it will leave more room for the Jonas character to develop his own place instead of constantly having to say about what he read in Daniels files.
Ultimately it will depend on how the writers develop his character and maybe they themselves are waiting until they early episodes are under way before deciding if he will remain a central role or not.

Jonas has failed to fill the space because he's MGM's self-fulfilling prophecy. The character could never have worked properly because they brought him in under the wrong circumstances. They should never have made him 'responsible' for Danny's woes. They should not have either ascended or killed the character of Daniel off in the first place, even though MS wanted to leave. What they perhaps ought to have done is made Daniel leave the team and go off world on some majorly important long term expedition with another team of academics and archaeologists. That would have left room for a seamless rejoining of the SG1 team if necessary and would have made the 'bringing back of Daniel' a snip and acceptable.

Instead, they made a pig's ear of the whole bloody fiasco, had Daniel ascending from his deathbed (Oh the angst! Oh the tears! Oh puhleeeese!) which was utterly pathetic and then introduced the new guy as the guy who got Daniel blamed for the experiment which ultimately killed him! How dumb is this? Do the writers have brains? My answer is.....if brains were dynamite then the writers and the Stargate production team wouldn't have enough to blow their noses. Did they really think that this method of getting rid of a character would endear many of the Daniel fans to the new character and if so, what planet are these cretins living on? Not this one, that's for sure.

They must think viewers are all stupid. Of course, they may be right in many cases.

Scene: Living room in a trailer park in southern United States.

First Redneck: D'uh.....why are that guy's eyes glowing?

Second Redneck: Ah dunno....gimme another beer!

Both Rednecks pass out before the first commercial break and Stargate plays away merrily to itself in the corner.

Bringing Daniel back under these circumstances will be more than interesting....it will be miraculous.

This show has jumped the shark big time. Where are you Fonzie?!!! Come back and jump that damn shark again!

:D :D

i know, for me, a better way to write out daniel would be for him and, hey let's got with SG-11, they have rotten luck....anyway, he's off on a dig with them and...they vanish.

Remember way back in American History...the colony that just vanished. Croaton was carved into a tree and noone has any idea where they went. Well, IMHO, that would ahve been a 'better' way to write out daniel than turning him into a vorlon.
THink of the angst....a member of their own missing and lost in the universe. It would have left it open for him to return, and would have added a level of mystery to the whole thing, while allowing him to remain human.

Jonas could still join SG-1....The whole Kelowna thing could still happen, but Daniel never goes there.

I never have cared for how they deified him, and that simple fact is going to haunt them when they bring his glowliness back. Ok, so he's been trotting around the universe for a year...now he's back to being a mere human? I dont' think so. He's just going to be an arrogant little morally superior marty sue. Maybe they'll avoid it but I have a funny feeling that his 'super powers' will get trotted out more than once in teh coming season. Which could be quite humorous to watch considering how critical people (and the actor himself) has been of Sam's or Jonas' 'super powers'.

Daniel was written out with a sledge hammer, and he's going to be brought back in with a back hoe.

Maybe I'm wrong but given that 'fallen' and 'homecoming' are the first two eps of season 7....I don't think so.

The problem faced if Daniel just went "missing" is that Jonas becomes a temp till he is found.
SG-1 wouldnt be able to incorp. him into the team because there was no finality to Daniel leaving, he could be found any episode.

The major stumble, as Anni said, was making Jonas partialy responsible for the death of Daniel (Ignoring the glowy bit for now)

Maybe a "Fire and Water" type storyline could have worked if they hadnt already used it.

well, after all of that, he ended up being a temporary replacement anyway.

As much as i've throughly enjoyed Jonas, there is a part of me that wishes he'd never been introduced to the show. Just as I get used to him, he's gonna be tossed aside like so much garbage. I am really going to miss his character next year.

How frusterating for the writers to spend 22 eps trying to develop a character only to have all that hard work tossed out the window so the reset button can be hit and return us all to status quo.
