Well, I'm back... what a rush! Sorry that I haven't reported straight away, but I got home late and I was absolutely stuffed.
The convention was held at the Royal Melbourne Childrens Hospital, and started at 9:00 am. I got there at around 10:20, so I missed the 'What's New' panel.
When I first walked in the door (for only twenty bucks, I might add) I was presented with something that made me really worried about what I was going to experience: a fake tabloid with a pic of Amanda kissing Thor (from Nemesis) with the headline screaming 'Are Women From Earth Having Sex With Aliens?' Thankfully my fears were put to rest with the 'Science And Technology of Stargate' talk. Imange fifty people in the one room with the same question: 'When the Tollan go out of phase, why don't they fall through the floor?'
After the talk, I headed out to the main area, which was set up nicely. There was a huge TV showing previews of upcoming movies, such as Die Another Day, Solaris, and (naturally) Star Trek: Nemesis, which looks extremely cool. There was the standard 'guy selling comics, guy selling photos, guy selling books, etc' , but there was enough there to keep you from getting bored. I managed to grab some Stargate comic books and some X-Files trading cards (go Flukeman!).
Amanda was sceduled to arrive at 12, so I headed down to get some food at 11:30. Little tip: NEVER head down to get some food half an hour beforehand. Maccas will ALWAYS screw up your order, and you'll be late and have to sit up the back. (I was worried I wouldn't get a seat at all - 210 people in a room made for 200 is sure to cause problems.).
Amanda arrived a couple of minutes late, but no one cared - as soon as she walked in the door, everyone screamed for the next half hour. She didn't talk much about season seven, but she discussed the Black Widow Syndrone, and her hope is that Carter will go out with someone in S7 - 'Just to prove she can have a regular guy without killing him'. She also talked about how great it was working with Marina Sirtis and John DeLancie, and the rather, um (how can I put this?)... phallic nature of the Zat guns.
She also called Chris Judge, who said hello to everyone (Actually, he said 'WASSUP AUSTRALIA!', but at least we said hi).
After, she signed autographs for $25 each, and for every picture you bought she would sign something you brought with you. She also donated the money to the hospital - she's just that nice. I got four autographs ( two pictures and TV Zone Specials #2 and #3) and heaps of photos with her. (Oh, and Shelby? I asked for you: Blue fatigues are the go. Don't say I never do anything for you!)
Unfortunately, I had to leave at around 5:30pm, so I missed the rest. If anyone who was there is reading, could you tell me what happened?
All in all, well worth it. I can't wait to meet her again...like Josh said, she seems like a party girl. If you're reading this, Amanda, thankyou very much for coming, and I hope you enjoyed it as much as we all did. Thankyou!
Photos soon.
