Putting the time travel argument to one side seeing as in the series they have actually done it (although not physically), there are many time paradoxxes that could conflict or reinforce teh series timeline.

Now im no physicist but I know my way around Star Trek (LOL) so that must qualify me for something.

What happens in 5 years time when the endgame is played? Now lets say they defeat the Synths plans to destroy the earth, what then?

If the Earth is safe and the seeker doesnt send them back in time, then how can they be there to save the Earth. But then if they do save the Earth and are still sent back then how could they truly follow the same path without deviation, and so on they would be caught in a time loop. Is it logical to say that once they were sent back a new timeline was created meaning they wouldnot have to return to complete the loop?

If any 1 member of the 5 gets killed again how can they be sent back in time from the future event??

But does this also mean the 5 will survive no matter what to ensure the future/past event takes place?

If they fail to save the Earth of course they can yet again get sent back by the seeker and then try a new tactic seeing as they would have most of the information at hand. They could of course save Ed Scrivens (NASA Director) from his death by the synths releasing a complete new approach to the problem. How many times theoretically do you think they could go back?

Now I have given you a headache it would be interesting to know what you think?

So how many of you know really really brainy science type people who can answer my questions.

Well, count me out in the brainy science type people. That is totally out of my league. :D But here are some of my simple and crazy ideas.

I suppose probably they can't be sent back. I'm thinking based in what happen to Angela when they were send back this time. They have to make it before her condition gets worse.

Probably an infinite number, that I suppose is the Seeker doesn't have some kind of rule that they can't do it after a specific number of times.
:D

That is for sure, but interesting questions is going to be fun to read all the theories. Well, that is I could follow it.

As Kathryn Janeway said "Temporal Mechanics give me a headache", but I love to discuss it.

This thread has a great discussion here at ascifi: http://www.ascifi.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=3108(skip to my post about half way down page two.)
Also look at this website: http://freespace.virgin.net/steve.preston/

I think that 'Odyssey 5' subscribes to the theory of infinite parallel universes (as shown in 'Sliders' or in the 'Star Trek:TNG' episode 'Parallels')

The Odyssey 5 crew have gone back in time (albeit not physically) and from now on the timeline is changed forever, nothing that did happen will necessarily happen again (but does exist elsewhere in a parallel universe.)

I hope that helps.

Time travel stories really DO give me a headache. I find it is all explained by subscribing to the infinite universes idea. The Grandfather paradox isn't really surmountable any other way.

Leaving aside the multiple universes idea, I also like the concept that the timeline is fixed, and no matter what is altered by time travelers the outcome will always be the same. I can't think of a good example of this, but I am sure there is bound to be one out there.
It wouldn't be a very satisfying storyline for this show to follow though :)
