Question on the cost

Exactly how much did it cost to get to Gatecon for you? I'm sure it's been asked b4 but I don't have the time to look it up. I'm on the east coast like Tim (hi :wave and he knows that i've said I'd do anything to get to it this year.

I know this will be no use to you, but will be for anyone from Australia who reads this thread...

Airfare was between AU$1,700 and AU$2,300 ex Canberra (through Sydney).

Find a good travel agent to get the best price.

And being such a long flight, I found that one that has a stopover part way is good (JAL give you a free night in Japan at no extra cost)

Canadian stop over in Honolulu for two hours (but you don't get to see any of it).

United have a stopover in LA, and if your connecting flight isn't too close, there are enough shops to keep you busy for a while there.

I'm a bad one to ask. It's a three drive north for me so other than ticket and hotel [and food], it's gas money.

Envy can only go so far...

Ah... but remember, that makes me pretty much a very long-distance flight from a lot of other big cons: Vulkon, the upcoming World-Con in Toronto, The Wolf stuff in the UK, etc.

I guess it all balances out.

But than, *everyone* is long-distance from Best of Both Worlds...

This year's cost ...

Okay... *this* year a basic room ran about $140.00CAN or around $100US. That's either one King size or two double beds. No charge for two folks in a room. It's usually an extra $10-15 a night for an extra person, so if there's three in a room, figure $155 CAN. That's *not* taking into account the GST [ a service tax] that cisitors to Canada can get a refund on.

Now, I dn't know what next year's prices will be, but it should be close.
