Having just visited the play.com website I wonder if anyone knows the answer to my question....

1 - Why are the Region 1 boxed sets £10 cheaper than the R2 Boxed sets.

2 - why does the Region 2 Boxed set have 6 disks when the Region 1 Boxed set only has 5

I would have throught that the region 1 disks would have been more expensive as they need to import them from the USA. Now I need to decide if I should order all 5 boxed sets on region 2, or wait and get the Region 1 boxed sets (although if I wait for Region 1 it may take a long time with the delay in the USA releasing them)

can I offer the response that everything is cheaper in US funds than it is in Uk pounds?

It is amazing - there are several instances of R1 dvds being much cheaper on play.com than R2 dvds

Sorry, I don't really have an explanation, just wanted to comiserate...

I only have the R1 S1 boxset, and when the R2 one became available, it was £10 cheaper than the R1 had been for several months... but that depends on source and £/$ rate.

I believe there are no extras at all on the R2 boxset (confirmed by a review on Amazon), whereas there are a lot of small featurettes on the R1 boxset - but they seem to be the ones on the season 2 individual volumes for R2. I see the boxset has five disc-boxes in it - presumably one of them has two discs; the review on Amazon implies some discs have five episodes on...

Alright - so I'm a total NEWB when it comes to all of this stuff. What I'm wondering - and I think I can venture a guess - but I'd prefer to just flat out know - which R is which?
Is R1 Europe?
and R2 North America?

or is it the other way around?

and to me it sounds like the box sets
Europe has seasons 1,2,3
and
North America only has seasons 1,2

Any word of Season 3 box set for North America?

Other way round:

Region1 = USA, Canada

Region 2 = Europe, Middle East, Japan, South Africa

Region 3 = S. Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong

Region 4 = Australia, New Zealand, Latin America

Region 5 = Ex-Soviet countries, Indian sub-continent, Africa

Region 6 = China

Region 0 = all regions ???

I'll give you a run-down of the R1 Season 1 set (which is 5 discs, not 6):

All discs include English 2.0 Sound, French 2.0 Sound, Spanish 2.0 Sound, Spanish Subtitles and French Subtitles all all 22 episodes. There are no English subtitles, but Closed Captioning is provided (most TVs support it). All episodes are in 1.78:1 Widescreen, enhanced for WideScreen TVs. There are 5 featurettes, all of which run somewhere between 4 and 5 minutes, and 2 trailers.

The menu for Disc one is animated on the main menu. It shows the event horizon shimmering and when you press Enter the Iris closes and in the gate are the names of the eps. Pick one to enter it's menu. The sub-menus are not animated, they show a shot from the episode and have the options: Play, Scene Selection (COTG has 28 chapters, TEW and Emancipation have 8 each), Language and Subtitles. The sub-sub menus are really simple and not animated. The menus for the other 4 discs are similar, but not animated. The eps on discs 2-5 only have 5 chapters each (which IMO is worthless).

Each episode (besides COTG, which is around an hour 32 I think)runs about 44:30 minutes with credits. Not sure if any footage has been cut from the originial Showtime versions. The "Bullsh*t" and "Wonder if it gets Showtime" lines from WTSG are both intact.

Disc 1:
COTG (both parts in one uncut episode with the Ra Mask credits, Shar'E nudity intact)
The Enemy Within (this and all other episodes have the syndacation credit sequence, not the Showtime Ra Mask version)
Emancipation

Disc 2:
The Broca Divide
The First Commandment
Brief Candle
Cold Lazurus
Thor's Hammer
Cast and Crew Featurette (around 4-5 mins)
30-Second Promo Trailer (for Season 4 I think)
2:30 Trailer for the series

Disc 3:
The Torment of Tantalus
Bloodlines
Fire and Water
The Nox
Hathor
General Hammond Featurette

Disc 4:
Cor-Ai
Singularity
Enigma
Tin Man
Solitudes
Captain Carter Featurette
Behind the Scenes with the Producers/Writers Featurette

Disc 5:
TBFTGOG
Politics
Within the Serpent's Grasp
Costume Design Featurette
