I thought Showtime was gonna announce if they're gonna renew Odyssey 5 for a full second season, near the end of November.

Has anyone heard anything yet ?

I think I erroneously posted that Showtime had confirmed a 20 ep second season, but I did a little bit more research and it looks as if I got my wires a bit crossed. They have given Jeremiah a second season (Odyssey 5's Friday Night running mate in the US), but have yet to confirm a second season. If I understand correctly, the entire first season has not yet been shown in the US, and has been put on a long hiatus.
The show has not been pulling in the numbers for Showtime unfortunately, but hopefully they will 1) put it in syndication so it reaches a wider audience and 2) realise they have top quality television on their hands and renew it as soon as possible :D

/ off to correct my posts where I told everyone a second season was coming :errrr:

Showtime haven't confirmed it yet, but is we take as an example the case of Jeremiah, probably they will do it after all the reruns end. The confirmation of Jeremiah Season 2 came after some time it wasn't a quick confirmation. So I'm hoping that is the case too with Odyssey 5. ;)

I was surprised when you said that they had ordered a 20 episode second season. Not because I don't think that it deserves it, but because these TV companies don't seem to be taking chances like that at the moment.

From the way they've messed around with 'Firefly', the on/off 'Battlestar Galactica' re-imaging and others, it's clear they only order full seasons for things that are a certainty like 'Enterprise'. Even 'Stargate' S7 was a late decision.

This must put extra pressure on the writers.
How can you write if you don't know how long it's going to last? I'm sure that 'Stargate' S6 has suffered because of this.

Yep I stuffed up.

TV companies do seem to be doing strange things at the moment - Birds of Prey was just cancelled in the States, and it has been pulling in consistently higher numbers than Firefly, and was even quickly extended to a full season on the strength of its first few eps.

I think the good news on the O5 front is that Jeremiah, the show it is paired with on Showtime, is popular and has been renewed. In terms of a pay-station like Showtime, I wonder exactly what 'popular' or 'good ratings' actually mean? It is also strange how we have had Odyssey 5 over here on Sky for a while now, and they haven't yet started to show any Jeremiah (mid December I think it is supposed to begin).

FireFly full season ? where did you hear about this, as far as I know, I thought FOX decided to give Firefly another 2 episodes, along with it's original 13 episode commitment...

Jeremiah is indeed coming to the U.K, SkyOne on 16th December. I think it'll be shown @ 9pm. :D

No. I mean BoP got extended to a full season pretty quickly - and even though it got a full-season order it STILL got cancelled. Just makes me wonder how much we can hope for any new series to make it into a second season this year :(

Such a shame, BOP had so much potential. But that was it's failure, it didn't live up to it's potential.

I've watched a few eps, and read most reviews. And what strikes up is that most episodes seem to focus on The Huntress. The other (I would say) more interesting to see characters, Oracle and Dinah seem to be pushed aside, so the huntress can kick some ass.

The dialogue was going no where, lame. And when there's a mission, to stop the weekly meta-human (again), the group, didn't act like a group. The huntress would be seen mostly, dinah would hanging around, whereas poor Oracle gets stuck doing the brain work.

And the relationships, well Oracle's meeting with boyfriend Wade parents only lasted like 5 mins, that's it. They hated her. But nothing was shown, like Oracle sticking up for herself, no.
Whereas we see The Huntress and Det Reese bickering for half the show.
If only the producers and writers thought of keeping the show true to it's comic origins...:(

THEY CANNOT CANCEL IT NOW I NEED ANSWERS DAM IT!!

hehe

I would hate to see O5 go the same way as others, Remember Space above and beyond that was great had soo much potential with a great cast.
Then there was Dark Skies then all the Babylon 5 spin offs all dead in the water.

We were left with "temptation island" and other **** I mean where is the justice in that.

hehe

I can't believe it, well I saw it coming, but not to this wonderful show "Firefly" has been cancelled

But that's what happens to shows when they're are subjected to so much hate by the execs at FOX. I mean, things like this:

1, Before the show has premiered, FOX decided to announce to the whole world, that they didn't like the pilot, and are deciding to re-shoot the pilot.

2, They show episodes out of order.

3, They didn't advertise the show right, they marketed the show for kids. Worse still, they hardly advertised the show at all.

4, No promotion whatsoever

5, They would show other things on the dead-timeslot sometimes, instead of repeats.

6, They expected a miracle to happen on a Friday night 8pm/7C timelsot.

7, They lied about, allowing Firefly grow, how they love the show

8, They said that they'll heavily promote the show during December, but did they ? NO !

9, They said that they'll put the show on hiatus. One WEEK later, they announce "By the way, we've decided to kill the show", Like they weren't planning to do this all along !

10, BAD TIMESLOT=BAD RATINGS, they expected record numbers on a FRIDAY NIGHT AT 8pm/7C

AND the thing that makes me really mad is, they said that'll they are looking for a new Day and timeslot for the show. What a complete load of s***

Er, William, you know this is the Odyssey 5 forum, right? While I am as annoyed as you about the bad treatment Firefly has received, let's try and keep discussion mostly on topic, mmm'kay? I know it is kind of relevant, but we don't want to scare off any potential new Odyssey 5 posters with our ranting about poor old Joss and Firefly ;)

As for Odyssey 5 - is it just me or has there been very little publicity for this show? There was a flurry of interviews and info back in May/June, but since then there has been very little buzz. I have been scouring the web for moles that might be able to fill us in on behind-the-scenes info, and have so far got nada, zip, zilch. I couldn't even find out if the show is filming right now.
I guess it is possible that we might not find out for months and months whether or not Showtime are going to go with further seasons. They had better - since we are all getting more and more confused with the plot, if it finishes forever at ep 20 there are going to be a lot of unanswered questions.

Yes, only about two more episodes left of O5 that have actually been filmed, but I'm sure Showtime will make the other 6.

Maybe the fact that it's Showtime and not Fox explains all. Being in the UK I can't comment on the amount of publicity they have had.

William's first two points struck me as being exactly the same as the original 'Star Trek' series, (substitute NBC for FOX), different times I know, but it survived the ordeal:

1, Before the show has premiered, FOX decided to announce to the whole world, that they didn't like the pilot, and are deciding to re-shoot the pilot.

2, They show episodes out of order.

And Manny Coto is certain they will make all 5 years of O5!

 Methinks that might be a little wishful thinking in there. Don't get me wrong - I love the show, but in this day and age nothing is a sure thing on American television.

Publicity - when I was in Canada we had a fairly basic cable service (about 40 channels, including WB, Fox etc), and although we didn't have a subscription to Showtime, the Showtime advertising, and the advertising of other fairly similar networks like HBO, did get into the mainstream ads. I remember seeing ads on the television for a show with Rob Morrow called (I think) Street Time, or something to that effect. We had ads on our cheap channels for it, and I am sure there were many other instances of the same kind of thing.
I didn't notice any advertising for Odyssey 5 that wasn't explicitly internet based, although I do recall advertisements in magazines for Jeremiah.

One thing for sure, I'm really glad that Odyssey 5 is shown on Showtime, if it was on stupid FOX tv, the show will probably not make it.

I wonder when we'll know if there's gonna be a second season? I think the signs are good, since showtime has been repeating old episodes, instead of showing something else:D
