What happened in "Rain of Fire" ?

Why was she doing it, with Connor ?

I'm thinking it was a illusion, made by the Beast to distract Angel... it just seemed a bit staged, how Angel just happened to see them where he was standing, a bit staged ????

I'm not entirely sure why Cordy did it with Connor, I'm not even sure it was entirely her. It's my thought that the demon was controlling her to do it to hurt Angel or some other reason.
Now the demon said "Did you really think she'd be safe, with him?" refering, presumably, to Cordy and Connor, so as to get Angel to go check up on her and witness the deed, thats why he was there.
