2003 Gatecon Guests

No point checking the website, because no guests have been posted yet...

Not been before, but from what I've seen they usually have a lot of guests! Sounds like you can pretty much count on Teryl Rothery, JR Bourne, Peter Williams and Amanda Tapping being there if they can possibly make it (but please don't book just to see one of them, because that one is bound to cancel or have a break from it this year!)

A lot of people are already booked (including me...). It's never a good idea to book for a con just because of the guestlist, because last minute changes are not uncommon. Seems with Gatecon you can be pretty sure of having a good time whoever turns up.

Gatecon

Thanks Tabitha, yes I've visted Gatecons site. But like Rowan said, no help there yet.

Thanks Rowan. I was just curious. This will be my first convention and I just wanted to know who I might be able to see.
Knowing my luck none of the main five will show, but as I'm a huge fan I'd be happy to see just about anyone. I've seen photos of JR Bourne from Seiks party. Can either of you tell me what that is? Or was?

Fryn hasn't passed on any definites yet, as most of them are still on hiatus, or have just returned. So we won't start hearing back from a lot of them for a couple of weeks at least.

Sekh's Party is the culmination of the events that are organised by the Gategoers list.

It's basically a HUGE get together and welcome to anyone attending the con. Gategoers organises a lot of activities and "Get to know everyone" events.

Unfortunately I have missed Sekh's party every year (I always seem to be busy for some reason ), but from what everyone says, it's an absolute blast. Food, Drink, Guests, a charity auction and lots lots more.

Allan, I think we need to see Harlan about building you a robot replica so that you can come to the party this year :D .

You are right though, it is a lot of fun. Gatecon 2002 was my first and I didn't know anyone, but I got to meet people at the party and make friends, and ended up having a great time.

And I have to agree 110% with what Rowan Green said - with Gatecon you can be pretty sure of having a good time whoever turns up - last year was amazing, and I'm in no doubt this year will be even better.

Like I say, it's my first time, and I'm already getting so excited! It's not just the con: there's about 20 of us have booked on the same flights between London and Vancouver. And there's plans for all kind of trips: sightseeing, shopping, whalewatching, theatre trip...

Personally I'm hoping to find a couple of free days to get out into the wilderness too: looking for tips and maybe companions to make that happen... I'm not massively fit or anything, and not planning anything rash. But riding or hiking somewhere without a house or a road in site is something I really want to do while I'm there. Anyone any ideas?

Of course, all this depends on my financial situation improving so I can go... :(

guests and outings

Hi everyone, well, having been to every Gatecon and 2 Sekh's parties and being an outdoorswoman myself I have to say go for it. Gatecon is the best chance to see as many members of the cast and crew of Stargate SG-1 as you will ever get to see. No matter who shows up it's always a blast.

Sekh's party is truly fun and you never know who you'll see. ;) JR is the best, the auction, the SG-1 music videos, the drinks, the food, it's all top notch!!!

As for getting out and about in Vancouver, there's so many wonderful places to go it's hard to pick just one. If you're looking for an out of the way place that's not too hard to get to maybe we can get the Gategoers to have a small hike together. My husband has suggested Murin Park, it may be spelled Murrin. And then there's Harrison Hot Springs, he says there's a nice park with hiking trials all around it and then you can chill out in the springs. Well, it's worth investigating.

Anyway, Vancouver is a wonderful place to hang out in, there's so many different cultures and so much to do, from whale watching, the aquarium, shopping, night life, Stanley park, there's also the con's bus tour, shows you shooting locations for Stargate and other shows too. If it's not raining and cloudy it's a beautiful place.

It's almost impossible to not have fun and enjoy yourself. If you get out, make friends, do everything at the con and smile, you're sure to have a blast.

Party on people!!! SS

Well...I'm only a little jealous. Okay, I'm *REALLY* jealous but I'm just gonna keep that fact to myself!! Oops...I think I just blew my cover... ;)

I was actually wondering how many fans usually go to Gatecon...I'm guessing lots, but...can anyone give an at least vague, kinda close to the right number estimate?

Thanks!

Bec

'She looked down at me. She used to call me "Rimmer".'
'Everybody called you Rimmer!'
'But it was the way she said it...Rimmer...to rhyme with "scum".'

'How can she do that?'
'Magnets. Magnets, every one of those pieces has a little tiny magnet on the bottom of it to hold it on the board lie when you're driving so they don't rattle off...anyway everyone to those magnets has a little electrical field around it. That's how she was able to manipulate it. Magnets. They do look like horses.'

Thanks for that...400 people, wow...

'Now we die.'
'Well, that's a bad plan.'

ok i just want to know one or two things, whats like the latest i can get a ticket? and whats like the latest that i can make reservations at the hotel the con is in?

Don't think anyone can answer that. From what I've heard it sounds like they've sold a fair percentage of the tickets. Any others could go as soon as guests are announced. There might be a few people selling theirs on after that.

Hotel... don't know. But I think most people will book as soon as they've got a con ticket...

Personally I've booked even though I've not got the money to come yet! Con ticket can be transferred, and I reckon it's worth risking losing my flight and hotel deposites to be sure of a ticket (and an early one in my case...)

I'm hoping to go this year, it will be my first Gatecon. But I'm so nervous about going so far without my family, I just hope I can meet alot of fans over there so I won't be alone.

Don't worry, Juicy. It was exactly the same for me last year. As I said above, last year was my first Gatecon, and the furthest I've ever been away from home. I didn't know anybody there, just a few names off this board, but I met a lot of really nice people, so you're never really alone at Gatecon.
If you do come along, don't be afraid to just introduce yourself to people and you'll find that we're all really friendly :rolly2:

 Thankyou thats nice to know. I am so looking forward to september, it's going to be great.
Where abouts are you from?

I'm from the UK aswell. I love flying but I'll probably be sick of it after 9 hours. :errrr:

There's a load of us on the Gategoers list coming from the UK who've all booked on the same flights. I think it's actually a longer flight (stops to re-fuel in Calgary...), but it's a good deal. I've booked a premier seat, which means wider seat, freebies and a bigger luggage allowance, for under £700. From what I've seen that's cheaper than a lot of economy tickets.

Apparently last year they did a congo round the plane at Calgary... sounds fun!

If you want info: just come on the gategoers list and look through the archives for posts about the 'Gatwick Express' :D
