Well, here's yet another strike for the show:
Andromeda's writing staff has undergone a reshuffle for season four, with four writers who have been with the series from the beginning saying their farewells.
Writing teams Matt Kiene & Joe Reinkemeyer and Ashley Edward Miller & Zack Stentz will be leaving the show's staff at the end of season three, according to AndromedaTV.com.
"All four of these incredible writers have been with the show from the beginning and while they will be working on new shows, you never know when they may come back to write an episode (or two, or three!)," wrote Tribune creative executive Seth Howard and Fireworks supervising producer Karen Wookey. "They are not just talented writers, but have become part of our family and we wish them well. They will be missed."
Kiene and Reinkemeyer's work on the series over the past three years included Nietzschean-heavy episodes such as 'Double Helix', 'The Honey Offering' and 'Immaculate Perception'. Miller and Stentz penned 'D Minus Zero', the first Andromeda episode filmed, and their subsequent outings included 'The Devil Take The Hindmost', 'Una Salus Victus' and 'The Lone And Level Sands'.
In a post at the Slipstream BBS, Miller said the "parting was more than amicable," and he and Stentz already have another writing gig lined up. The pair will serve as consulting producers on UPN's revival of The Twilight Zone, which airs on Wednesday evenings after the latest Star Trek series, Enterprise.
Three new writers will be coming aboard the Andromeda Ascendant to fill the shoes of the departing veterans. Naomi Janzen is already familiar with the Andromeda universe, having written 'For Whom The Bell Tolls' earlier in the season. Joining her are Larry and Paul Barber, whose genre experience includes The X-Files, Seven Days and Witchblade. "Larry and Paul have been SF fans since they can remember and can't wait to start telling stories in our universe," wrote Howard and Wookey.
Janzen, the Barbers, and head writer Bob Engels will be joined by new faces as the season progresses. "Our next step is to take a look at where we ended this season and plot ahead for season four. Look for other freelance writers to join our core writing team. Some names you will recognize and some will be new."
