Final Flight of Osiris

Dark Horizons reports that the short film "Final Flight of Osiris," conceived by the creators of "The Matrix" trilogy will be attached to "Dreamcatcher"when it is released March 21.

Anyone know more about this? I searched IMdB but it just gave me a TV movie about Amelia Earhart???

Is it part of 'The Matrix' world or something completely different?

Is it by the Wachowski Brothers? If it is, is it a martial arts movie, or science fiction -- it sounds scifi from the title.

I've found out from the website http://www.thematrixonline.com/ that it's an Animatrix Animé film, but that's about all they know. So, it is a cartoon, and probably very short in length. Some discusion that it may star a cartoon version of Morpheus.

Answered this myself -- it is 'Matrix' themed. There will be 9 Animatrix shorts in all, all of them preludes to the 'Matrix Reloaded'

SCIFI WIRE -- Osiris Takes Flight

The upcoming Matrix-themed animated short film The Final Flight of the Osiris will accompany the release of the upcoming Stephen King SF movie Dreamcatcher on March 21, Warner Brothers and Village Roadshow Pictures announced. Osiris is a nine-minute computer-generated short that serves as a prelude to the upcoming sequel film The Matrix Reloaded, which opens May 15.

Osiris is one of nine short films that make up The Animatrix, which delve further into the universe of The Matrix movies. The short-film series was conceived by Larry and Andy Wachowski, the brothers who created, wrote and directed the Matrix trilogy of films. The Wachowskis also wrote four of the nine Animatrix episodes, including Osiris, the studios announced.

Warner Home Video and Village Roadshow Pictures will release The Animatrix on DVD and VHS on June 3. The third Matrix movie, The Matrix Revolutions, opens in November. Four of the Animatrix shorts will be posted online at the official Web site, beginning Feb. 4.

Okay, maybe only me interested in these then?

Aint' it cool news likes them:

from AICN: Cool News 20/03/03
[Dreamcatcher] has the ANIMATRIX short attached, FINAL FLIGHT OF THE OSIRIS, animated by Square and written by the Wachowski's themselves. It's a wonder to behold on the big screen and whets the appetite like you wouldn't believe for the next MATRIX flick.

-Quint.

Unfortunately, he thinks 'Dreamcatcher' is rubbish!

I've been keeping an eye on this for a while now... it looks good. I think the DVD with all 9 animees is out already, but I'm not too sure. You can download them from www.theanimatrix.com (provided you have a decent connection :D ). I've seen the final flight of the osiris, and all the animees on the animatrix website to date.

The final flight of the osiris provides a clue to the plot of the Matrix Reloaded, although this clue can be found in the Trailers....

The machines are digging down to Zion to attack the last human city. The Osiris discovers the drill that they are building, and sends someone into the Matrix to warn the rest of the people in Zion... In one of the trailers, Niobe says "the machines are digging straight down to Zion"...

In the UK, the DVD is out in June. You can find it on Play.com or Amazon or elsewhere.

A friend sent me a cd with all of the shorts on it and I was totally blown away! Especially by the historical ones, which depicted how the Machines took control. Very powerful stuff.

Final Flight of the Osiris was pretty impressive. I haven't seen Final Fantasy myself, but from watching adverts, this short seemed to be far superior. While most shots were quite obviously computer generated, every now and then you would see an image that looked photo-realistic. Totally astounding! And it has a neat storyline, if a little reminiscent of the original movie at times.

One of my friends complained that the first sequence in "FLight.." was almost pornographic, but personally I think he was just being a prude, although the camera did linger a bit too long on the (Convered!) crotch areas of the characters sometimes.

I hadn't really been excited about the Matrix sequels until I saw these shorts, and now I just can't wait! Roll on next week...

Check your pms Mr Dave.

It does seem to be a bit of a marketing oversight that this DVD isn't released here in time. If it was available right now I am pretty sure it would be sellign VERY fast.

Ive seen the ANimatrix Final Flight of Osiris But apparently here in the UK theres only 1... :S

You should be able to view more of them at www.whatisthematrix.com

The animatrix sub-site is here: http://www.intothematrix.com/

It currently has some of my favourites The Second Renaissance Pt 1 & 2 and Detective Story, which features the voice of Carrie Anne Moss. It is very noirish and cool. You need quicktime 6.

Aww poor Trunks ;) An internet cafe could probably sort you out too, or a library. Although you might have problems getting volume, which is pretty important.

Probably spoilers.......

I'll try not to spoil too much though....

Anyone else seen these now then?

The Flight of the Osirus -- as Leprykawn says it is about a ship that discovers the machines are digging down -- they have found the location of Zion. I don't think it's the best one at all. Re: the nudity in this one -- it's fairly minor -- some of the violence in the others is more concerning.

The Second Renaissance Pts I & II -- together they give the complete history of the Pre-Matrix world.

Program -- a test for a new recruit.

A Detective Story -- Sam Spade tracks down Trinity -- as Tabitha said it is very different in the animation to the others -- but I like the way they all are animated in different ways.

Beyond -- this was my favourite -- not just a glitch in the Matrix, more like a Bad Sector on the Hard Drive.

Matriculated -- this was a weird one -- I think that the machine thought it was human -- a sort of Reverse-Matrix.

World Record -- an athlete wants to win so much, he becomes aware.

Kid's Story -- Sk8ter Boi contacts Neo and then does a Vanilla Sky.

Oh yeah, "Beyond" was amazing. It had a really beautiful dreamlike quality to it, and I wasn't quite sure what was happening for some time.

Do you think that it was implied that the "Bad Sector" was something that was created by rebels to help people figure out that they shouldn't believe everything they see?

I'm not sure. It was under surveillance and the big truck and military types came, but it was only kids who had discovered it, and they didn't seem to realise what it meant. The girl thought it was haunted.

As I recall there were shadowy scenes with people at computers discussing the sector - they could have been the authorities discovering the problem, but I got the impression that these areas where the Matrix wasn't programmed right were being created, or at least affected by the hackers in the real world. Maybe they can't outright change the rules of the Matrix, but if they can do things like leap from building to building while programmed into the mainframe itself, then maybe they are also able to affect it somehow from the outside.

I think that one, plus the two Renaissance ones were excellent, as was the noirish 'tec story. I was frankly disappointed by the one about the runner - I couldn't figure out if the MIBs in the stadium were Neo-types or Agents. It was all a little confusing, and frankily depressing at the end.

Matriculated was a very interesting idea - although one that probably wasn't going to be fruitful in the long run. If perhaps they were enlightening the machines to the point that they saw common cause with humans, rather than blatantly manipulating them in exactly the same way that humans were being manipulated within the Matrix, then it might have a bit more resonance, but there seemed to be a fundamental problem with the morality of this idea for me... Still the scenes when they were 'reprogramming' the machine were pretty amazing.

I hadn't seen it that way. I thought they were Agents (the authorities) but your idea of them being Hackers in the real world seems much more likely. It would make sense to attack the Matrix in this way.

There are some interesting comments on the animations here:
http://www.greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=00AoMm

with some replies from Peter Chung.

The question "What's up with the hommunculus-in-a-jar in Matriculated" was one I wondered about too.

edit: 'Final Flight of Osirus' is on UK TV tonight (21/05/03) on Ch5, it follows a showing of 'The Matrix' and is followed by 'The Making of The Matrix Reloaded'.

I'm watching 'Matrix Reloaded' tomorrow.

Matrixculated and Beyond are excellent (Spoilers?)

Have finished viewing my Animatrix DVD and must say it is very good, both for Anime fans and of course of Matrix

Uneven quality...Final FLight of Osiris is of course a prelude to Reloaded....amazingly good graphics but story-wise very lite (although it has a very stylish dojo swordfight)

Beyond is truly beautiful and even manage to match FFoO for sheer "eye candy" plus its story is stronger than it. Sheer amazing pastel colours manage to evoke a very beautiful 3D scenes

My Fave is Matrixculated....introduces a whole new depth to the Matrix World or in this case, the "real world". First u see other types of machines than sentinels hunting humans....then how the humans instead of reprogramming captured machines to be "slaves" insteads provide them with a "choice". How they do this in their own Machine Matrix World is super. And has an ending that reflects perhaps that the Machines only have their purpose to guide them....

One interesting mention between 2 of the Humans about how do you know you are not dreaming now (in the real world) is very very interesting.....as pointed out, when all you have are dreams to experience how do you know you are now awake? hints to the future?

Just finished watching my DVD, too and I'm stoked I totally understand that kid now. Kid's Story was really well done. The thoughts this kid is having alone in his room are common for teenagers, but mean so much more in the world of the Matrix. The animation even changes during the chase and becomes irratic and flawed, echoing what our thoughts do during times of extreme stress. And now I understand why the kid credits Neo with saving him, when it's obvious that he really did save himself.

My only problem with Matriculated was that the humans were expecting the machines to be capable of choice. The fact that it ends the way it does gives testimony to the contrary, but why would the humans living in that world believe that machines would be able to chose life over programming? I did like that there were already humans in that world who were working with machines. Provides hope for the future.

My favorite is still Detective Story. :D

to quote "why would the humans living in that world believe that machines would be able to chose life over programming?"

answer is what the Architect explained....Hope is human's greatest strength and weakness :)

tried to get Animatrix DVD today, but they were sold out:( :crying: :crying: :rolly2:
