Hey folks, how's it going?
Just a quick query, erm why's does the Complete Series 2 dvd boxset start with Vol. 2? Checked in a couple of shops and no-one seems to know so figured I try here. If anyone has any ideas pls let us know.
anyhows, ciao for now,

Frenchie. :eek4:

Is this the R1 S2? Because for R2 S2 it says for the first CD:

Serpent's Lair
In the Line of Duty
Prisoners
The Gamekeeper

Which is the order they should be in (would be hard to justify otherwise with Last S1 ep being a part 1 to the first S2 ep)

So I am not really sure what you are talking about, but maybe if you expand a bit on your first comment then I might know what you are talking about, lol, and I think this should in the Merchandise Forum, but it doesn't matter now.

It's R2 that I have. All the episodes for the entire series are in order but the actual DVD case starts on vol. 2 and on the actual box that all the dvds come in the txt description states it starts on vol. 2. I'm even more confused when having looked at getting series 3 they are numbered to continue on from where series 2 left off.

Let me clarify cos this is getting me confused, never mind anyone who's reading it. ;)

I bought the entire series 1 on DVD as a boxset. They were numbered vol 1 to 5.
I then bought the entire series 2 on DVD as a boxset. They were numbered vol 2 to 7.
I'm now looking at buying series 3, (suprise, suprise). They are numbered vol 8 onwards.

I'm trying to find out why there seems to be no sychronicity as for how the boxes are labelled.
I would have expected it to be EITHER "series 1 volumes 1 - 5", "series 2 volumes 1 - 7" OR "series 1 volumes 1 - 5", "series 2 volumes 6 - 11" etc.

The contents are fine, all in order but the actual labelling seems a little off. Or is there some grand sheme of things, clever answer that I just haven't thought of yet?
Does that make sense? :)

I don't know if this will help at all...

I don't currently own any boxsets, but what you are describing sounds like the single dvd editions. i.e. if you bought season two on disc separately, rather than in a boxset, you would own volumes 2-7. Separately, volume one was a "best of" for season one.

Did you buy the season two as a sealed boxset with an actual box holding all the single volumes together? If so, then weird!

Did you notice any season one or three bonus episodes on your volume 7? That is how the single discs were packaged, I think the "Hathor" ep from season one was a bonus on one of the season two separate discs.

Does all that make any sense???

They're all from the one boxed set. It wasn't sealed when I bought it but each dvd says on the back, 'not to be sold seperately' Also on the actual box which holds the entire set it describes and numbers the 1st dvd as being "vol 2".

As for bonus episodes there are two, Thors hammer and Hathor. They are on the final vol after the series 2 finale episode.

On another note it seems strange that the bonus episodes would have been from series 1. Would have expected maybe teasers from series 3 or something similar.

But thanks for the suggestion. :)

That's odd, I have S1 on R2 DVD and Hathor and Thor's Hammer are both where they should be, I don't have S2 yet, but it would be a bit pointless to include them again. Are you sure these are R2 and not R1 imports?

Talk about cheapskates at MGM...

It sounds like they are just boxing up the existing "single" DVDs that have been available for three years containing R2 season 2, and are now putting a box round them to sell as a "box set".

The extra episodes (Hathor and Thor's Hammer) pretty much prove this thought.

Since there wasn't such a set for season 1 (it was just the rather slim "best of" volume 1) they had to create five brand new volumes.

Possible I suppose but I dunno. I mean surely when they first started producing stargate episodes on dvd there would have been a series 2 vol. 1 out so why start compiling all the old stock but only using series 2 vol. 2 cases and onwards? hmmmm, bit of a puzzler. maybe I should starting nagging mgm a bit, see if anyone there has any idea whats going on. (yeah right) :s

Thanks for your time and ideas folks. Come on though, there must be someone out there with the same problem. The good thing I suppose is I haven't actualy paid for them yet so if I can get to the bottom of this I can still sort something out.

No I think you may be missing the point. The volume numbers are those for the "single" DVDs, and Volume 1 is the whole of series 1. Well, the bits they bothered to put on DVD, apart from "THors Hammer" and "Hathor" which they shoved in at Volume 7.

The boxset for series 3, on this basis will continue at volume 8, NOT at series 3 volume 1. Does that make sense (!) now?

I don't know if you agree Pteppic, but Frenchie when you bought the boxset maybe an important factor, they have only just released the boxsets so perhaps you have an earlier version which was simply all the single DVDs packaged into a presentation box.

Theoretically possible - but as you say, they've only just come out, so how could it be an earlier version? :D

I think I agree with the "MGM Cheapskates" thesis. WHat we really need is someone else that has bought the R2 S2 boxset to come in here and tell us whether their set is the same.

Aaaaah, I see where you're coming from PTeppic. Sorry for being momentarily blind to the logic. :) Just have to wait until Wingless Flyer gets their copy and see if that ones the same. I think your probably right about the cheapskate theory (in which case I'm going to be really narked) because of the way Series One is boxed. The box holding them all is different, it describes the dvd's as 'disc's' and not 'vol's' and also when you load the dvd up you go through a short animation of walking through the base, into the stargate room and dialling the gate to load the episodes whereas for Series Two all the dvd's load just like the single dvd's did; i.e 'select language' select episode ect but no animation; in which case, 'bastards'! :(

Yeah - I actually sent my R2 Series 1 boxset back to the supplier... it didn't have audio or subtitles, and I'm not sure about extras either.

I've kept the R1 S1 which is much better, even without English subtitles.

Well I have season 2 now and Frenchie you were indeed correct, it does start with volume 2. I really have no idea why..

Hi Wingless,

For the reason, see my suggestion above. To save on re-packaging they are just "boxing" the existing sequentially numbered "individual" DVD volumes.

This is bourne out by my examination in a store 30 minutes ago of the Series 3 boxset, which is Volumes 8-13.

Yeah, you are right, pretty cheap, it is a bit of ashame because S1 boxset doesn't match with the S2 boxset  But at least I have them on DVD now, knowing MGM they will probably release a whole new boxset design with added features after I have brougt them all

The msytery has been solved, MGM are being cheap.. ;)

Well thanks for all your time folks. It is nice to have all the episodes and I can't complain too much when I got S1 and S2 for £60. ;)
It's just a shame when a big company like that can't take the time to get something right and rush it out to get the bucks. I work in a little computer games shop and I see it all the time with new titles that come out. :(
Anyhows query solved.

Frenchie.
