The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galexy!!

Ok we're getting into the wayback Machine for this one.

How many people here have seem the BBC TV show The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galexy.

That has to be one of he funniest shows I have seen in my life!!

:p

There are some comments about 'Hitchhikers' in the 'Douglas Adams' forum in 'Books'. It is very funny and clever. I remember the original radio series though, which was repeated only last year. There are frequent rumours of a big-budget film, but nothing ever comes of it.

As for the TV series -- the make-up and special effects were the worst ever. Maybe you thought that added to the humour? Personally, I preferred to use my imagination.

Zaphod's second head has to be the worst SFX since the 'pig-faced' Telerites in the original 'Star Trek'!

Couldn't agree more.

Original radio series is a 10, books are an 8, TV series is a 3 at best.

What ever happenned to SF on the radio - I (vaguely) remember several good shows from my (distant) youth, but no-one seems to even try them these days.

Probably something to do with people being too lazy to use their imagination - or maybe the producers just underestimate us!

Oh come on the TV show is hilarious. They litteraly stpared every expense making the show. But it would be nice to get the script for the radio show and/or a recording off the internet somewhere. If anyone knows where I can get one or both, PLEASE, post a link i would be most greatful.

Can't agree on the TV show, but each to his own!

Scripts are available on Amazon, and original radio series has been issued in a number of recording formats over the years, including a CD set, recently re-issued and available on Amazon.co.uk site.

I have an earlier version of the CD set, and it is very close to the original radio series, but without the credits every half hour! Some of the earlier episodes however do not quite match my ancient recordings from the radio (now rather degraded) and I suspect these have been remixed and in some parts re-recorded, possibly due to loss of the original in the BBCs infamously inept archives.

Ive got both the radio series and the making of the hitch hikers guide. The latter has interviews with all the cast as well as Douglas Adams. Lol, I got both of mine from Motorway service station shops, both by the BBC.
Have to admit though, I do like the TV show. I watched it when I was younger when the concept of "on the cheap" hadnt yet occured to me.

The new radio serial began on BBC Radio 4 yesterday at 18:30hrs and is repeated tomorrow at 23:00hrs. Each episode is then available on the Internet for the following 7 days.

The final three books in the Hitchhiker 'trilogy' are being adapted for Radio 4 in two new series starting in September 2004 and May 2005.

Most of the original radio cast have been reunited for the new series and they are joined by new stars including William Franklin as The Voice of the Book and Richard Griffiths as Slartibartfast.

Director Dirk Maggs tells the story of the adaptation of 'The Tertiary Phase', from Douglas Adams' original proposal in 1993 to the recording sessions in 2004 and plans for the final Phases in 2005

I saw the tv series many years back and I rather liked it, I didn't get around to reading the book until long after.

As for the 2005 film, It's not prefect but I do love it. (The original Marvin from the tv series has a cameo in the film).

I've been rereading the entire Hitchhiker's series lately, a bit at a time. Adams had a special brand of humour that I've always enjoyed. I have the radio series on cd and I listen to it about once a year. I've also been playing the Infocom game again. That's great fun too.

Towel Day is 25 May annually.

I was at night school when it aired originally, and had to wait for the repeats, but I actually enjoyed it.

To be fair, the TV series was a h*ll of a lot better than the awful film, which turned Zaphod from a lovable egomaniac into a turd.:poop:

When you get to episode 12 of the radio series, listen out for Farntfar the priest. (He does marriages; and other things, but mainly marriages.)
