Harry Potter Breaks DVD Sales Record

HARRY Potter and the Chamber of Secrets has become the UK's fastest-selling DVD ever.

The second in JK Rowling's best-selling series smashed the million sales mark in just two days.

It outsold the previous DVD record holder, Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone, by 100% in the same period.

On Friday and Saturday there were 1,763,000 combined DVD and VHS sales of the Chamber of Secrets - for which there were over half a million pre-orders.

Many retailers opened at midnight on Thursday to cope with the demand for the release, helping make opening sales 15% stronger than the record set by the first in the Potter series.

The Chamber of Secrets - in which Harry must defeat the evil force which is threatening his Hogwarts school - took £53 million at the UK box office and recorded the most successful opening weekend in UK cinema history.

Potter fans who buy the DVD will get 19 additional or extended scenes, guided tours of Hogwarts and Diagon Alley, and a chance to take a sneak look inside the Chamber of Secrets itself.

What do you think of the extended scenes and extras?

Unfortunately I dont have the privilege of owning a DVD player so I just have the video, but it's better thsn nothing! :D

Or Video....

Do you get the 19 extra scenes with the video?

They are each only a few seconds long, but they are interesting to see anyway.

We only got a DVD last year, and first DVD we bought was The Philosophers Stone.

Yes, I'm insane...

I bought it on video and DVD--and I put a bid in to get the movie's big, standing display poster when the store is finished with it. That'll look spiffy next to the television.:D

I too am an owner of The Chamber of Secrets on DVD. The extras are brilliant. Was cool to see the scenes that didn't make it to the film itself. My 5 year daughter loves this film too. I thought it might scare her with the big spider but she's not that bothered. I do think DVD's are better value and think this is a very good film.

annette :D

I have the DVD - but my purchase doesn't affect the number in the UK sales -- ;)

working through the book now, actually ---- on page 182 as I type - can't read and surf at the same time --- well, okay, can't read and type -- I do pick up m'book when I'm waiting for my pages to load though -- stupid dial-up....

well. did everyone enjoy watching this DVD over and over again? i know my youngest daughter does. it is a brilliant film. (well i think so LOL)
