Sphinx Screensavers

Thanks for the reply. The download links still work for you? each time I go to the site all I see is an announcement that the screensavers are off line and predicted to be back in March 2003. I only want them for personal use on my laptop. If you can get to them, could you email them to me? That would be much appreciated.

Sorry, I get the same thing too with the download link, I thought you just meant the link to the screensaver page.

Sphinx Screensavers
I've sent Sphinx a couple of emails in the past month using the email address posted on the website. So far, no reply so I'm assumming that he is busy. The updates or new items section shows a last posting if February. I am hoping for a reply tho
The gate screensavers simply look fantastic and I'd really like to try the one with sound out.

Hey there! Hope he replies because the saver rocks.
Unfortunately I downloaded one *with* the sound ages ago and usually fifteen minutes after leaving my computer, forgetting to switch off the soundboxes of course, all my neighbors are knocking on my door complaining. LOL
I know there's a way to remove the sound, so to speak, just haven't figured out how yet...

LOL, yeah, I can imagine that the sound probably annoyed or freaked a few people. Usually screensavers have a check box to mute the sound in the settings somewhere. Hoping this one does too. Any chance you could email me a copy of the one you have, or is that permissible?

I have a copy of the official screensaver which is from MGM. Its stars and a rotating SGC logo and stargate that moves.
I used to have Sphinx's screensavers on my other PC, but no more.

Yeah, I have that one too. Not bad but I'm itchin' to try out the gate screensaver. Looks so cool. I think it would be cool too if there was a video type screensaver with the wormhole open and the SG-1 team going into the gate.

sg-1.co.uk has become a popular site so I suppose you could say I'm a victim to my own success. Just after Christmas my bandwidth costs started to creep up and eventually tipped over my allotted allowance. I got quite a hefty fee for extra bandwidth so had to make a decision, close the site completely or remove the screensavers - I took the latter route.
Since then I've been finishing my final year degree so everything else has been on a back burner (incl. site updates since Feb).
The screensaver problem still hasn't been resolved although since I posted the older versions I've upgraded them to be compatible with all the new Operating Systems incl. Win2000 and XP which is good news.
The bad news is there is no way I can afford to get them hosted. You can quite simply do the math ... each screensaver is approx 1Mb, 1000 downloads a month is 1 Gig x 11 screensavers = 11 Gig. No host I know of allows for 11 Gig of transfer and that's just the screensavers - add to that the usual 3 Gig monthly traffic and you're talking big bucks that comes out of my pocket.
I've updated the site to explain the situation but I'm open to any ideas people have - and no I'm not emailing them out !

I sympathize with your plight. It's tough running a site when the only funds to run it are coming out of your own pocket. Have you considered selling the screensavers or setting up some kind of donations setup so users can contribute to the operations costs for your site? From what I've heard about your screensavers, especially the gate ones, I would have no problem paying for them.

I don't have the spinning logo screensaver because I didn't download it from a website but I do have something else; however, I'm not sure it's what you're looking for:
It's the gateroom with the wormhole activated so the water is moving. (There are no members of SG-1 present, though).
