you either love or hate the queer dressing guy, personally i hate him and was so glad that they left him out of the film.
I think it was probably his rhyme that is most annoying so give your views here on "merry old tom bombadillo"

i have to say, he's not the best character in the book, but he's not that bad

I waded through his poems, but I thought he was a very interesting character. I didn't miss him in the film, even AFTER I read the book ;), but I still read that part of the book when I do re-read it. I like interesting people. :D

twas a good decision not to put him in the film, don't think it would have fitted in

ya know... of course he wouldnt have fit in, he wears yellow and blue and has sillier poems than any other character

i think they cast him, then decided not to go ahead with filming

maybe they realised that he would probably add another 3 hours onto fotr

or maybe they just thought it was stupid, pathetic, annoying, boring......etc

I wish there had been a choice of "I don't hate him, but I'm glad he's not in the film." Bombadil is not my favorite character and the silly poems are annoying. PJ made the right choice to -- as it were -- cut to the chase.

hehe, like i said, if they had put tom in we could have been in the cinemas so long people might've started wondering where we were :p

There was a lot of initial moaning from Tolkien devotees that the films had cut this or that -- Bombadil, in particular. I went back and reread the first two books after seeing each film and I think PJ made excellent choices.

It is NOT important to get every word, every character Tolkien wrote on the screen. What matters is to get a watchable film that can be understood by those who have never read Tolkien and those who haven't read the books in decades -- probably most of the audience.

And to do it in a reasonable time before family members file a missing person report :D

heh, my sister doesnt like lotr as it is, i think if bombadill had been in the film she would have probably gone insane out of hate for lotr "Hey! ho derry..."
