the Architect knew Neo was to be The One

Just a thought:
In the Matrix (the first one), Neo was arrested by the agents. The first thing you saw of the interrogation was a bunch of tv screens showing the same interrogation room with Neo in it. These tv screens are the same exact ones as the ones in the Architect's room. This leads me to believe that 1) the Architect was watching the interrogation, because 2) he knew or believed that Neo was going to be The One. This could have all kinds of implications!

One of the possible things that it could mean is that the Architect knew that The One was coming and did nothing about it. Why?

Of course he knew/knows. the One is part of the functioning of the Matrix

I subscribe to the theory that the Machines implant into the mind of a sutable subject; and anomalous, rebelious soul, an bit of code that enables the subject to become The One. in Neo, it becomes the "splinter in (his) mind" that drives him to this end.

the Archetect says "The function of the One is now to return to the Source, allowing a temporary dissemination of the code you cary, reinserting the prime program."...

The Machines allow the One to return to the source so that they can retrive the implanted and improved code and there by better understand the motivations of humanity and to improve themselvs and the Matrix. Even at the cost of the destruction of some of the Machines infrastructure. The Archetect says "There are levels of survival we are prepared to accept."... but, sine the Matrix is vital to the preservation of humanity, as the Machines see it, they are willing to allow for some inconvenience on there own part to improve the Matrix.

See my reply to "The Oracle and the Archetect" for more of my thoughts on the nature of the machines service to humanity.

right explanation that the Architect means for the One to return to the Source (same as 5 previous times) BUT the why is part our opinions differ :) (hehe sorry Skyron if I keep disagreeing with you..nothing personal)

Is the Architect reason that The One is an anomaly which needs to be reintegrated with the Source to prevent a systemic catacylsmic breakdown of the Matrix insufficient?

Perhaps...but to consider he is to return in order for Machines to better understand humanity in order to build a "better" Matrix is also just another theory..

Well, Hummm. the thories that I have all stemed from a basic question I had after the first movie and that was, "what is in it for the machines?" Why would machines as intelligent as they are need to have such an elaborate rouse like a matrix? For Energy? That is something that has now come under some question. If it were just a matter of keeping some Itelligent programs alive then a relitively small computer complex serviced by a handfull of capable robots and powered by nuclear or geothermic or even biomass. (you can run a clock off a tomato) and the Achetect says "there are levels of survival we are willing to accept"
So then I figured that the machines are really interested in preserving humanity for it's own sake. Laws of robotics and all. The Machines really want to serve humans ultimately. Therefore they need a big computer (all the linked minds of the pod people,) and the need the right program to keep the people happy (the Matrix.) and they need to keep it running. (let the 1% go and the smash Zion when it gets to be to much of a risk. (better 250,000 die than the millions of pod people.) )

In return for this act of service to humanity, the machines help themselvs to the left over brain power in the matrix to further thier own potential as intelligent "beings" with a purpose.

But what do I know.

Hey you gotta have a theory if you want to have and argument!

(ever wonder if the Wachowski brothers stop by this web site for a good laugh??) :clown:

One thing that's still bothering me concerning all of this:
If the Architect wanted Neo to "return to the Source" then why were the Agents trying to delete the one rogue program that would allow him to reach the unattainable level in the Source's building? The agent on top of the truck tells the KeyMaker that he's meant for one more thing, deletion, meaning that Neo won't be able to use him (his programming) to access the building which "houses" the Source.

Doesn't the Architect know that if the Agent programs succeed then Neo will fail to reach the Source?

Or does the Architect "see" the future the way the Oracle does and already know that Morpheus and Neo will prevent the Agents from succeeding? In which case, why bother with the car chase at all?

well the short answer is, Car chases sell movie tickets.

But you do make a good point.
How about this, all people, before that are freed have a bit of code implanted into them - in a way are all potential Ones. But in orfer to be sure who is the one he must be tested. So it is natural to assume that the Machines are looking for that one person who is able to defeat the agent programs. he becomes the prime candidate. Otherwise, they would have just taken Neo/Thomas Anderson to the sourse right off the bat when they picked him up at his office.

I am having trouble with that line you quote by the agent on the truck too. That is a puzzle. Perhaps agents aren't programed t know the big picture about the destiny of the matrix. they are worker ants. single purpose. and so they present yet another obstacle that the real One should be able to overcome.
but i dunno..

I agree Skyron (See! I do agree with you sometimes hehe). Agents, Sentinels (if you believe MIM) etc are all routine not very clever (with possible exception of Smith) with simple purpose to them

They need to be allowed to run as it is...and even they are not aware of the other world existing....of course Smith gains this insight but only because of the "Neo infection"

it was neo's destiny to reach the white door and pass through. always has. always will. regardless of the architect's watching or the agent's interference. the only variable is the choice that neo makes when he exits...and where zion goes from there.

humans inside the matrix have no knowledge of the future of the matrix, niether do the "free" minds. niether does the oracle. im willing to bet that niether does the architect. he knew the choice neo would make, and the likely future that lay in store for zion. but as he himself said: hope....( or wait was it love...i cant remember.)

fact is say if Agent killed/deleted Keymaker some other way will emerge for Neo to get to the Source...perhaps the Oracle will appear and say "There is another Keymaker" :)

Just to point out here the Keymaker is a very interesting character/programme actually since it is by far one of the simplest since it keeps only spouting its "purpose" and way "things meant to be". A nice contrast to say "cleverer" (more subroutines) one like Oracle

hehe thanks Spudnik

to go off on tangent of this topic, look at how simple Keymaker remarks are compared to say Architect (with Oracle be inbetween).

in hindsight, it is so foolish the humans never question why the Keymaker exists and why would it know all about getting to the Source? Niobe does ask but after his "I know because I must" is simply accepted at face value (a funny note: one reporter used this of an example of a "corny line" in Reloaded.....of course he is too stupid to realise IT IS MEANT to be so in context of things)

In contrast, the Architect is designed with enough subroutines to appear to answer nothing!

All they share is the inability to outright lie.

i tend to think of the architect as the supercomputer in "tron":

it gained 9000% higher intelligence in a matter of (months? weeks?) and gained control of the majority of systems in the world before whats-his-name got inside.

but its not exactly that way that i think of him either.

you remember in the first movie when neo learned all those training programs? i think the architect is a pod-born person that is constantly learning all the information of the matrix and the so called MIM (that stands for Matrix within Matrix right? im a noob). as he learns his intelligence gains exponentially, and so his program does too. after all the time he's spent in the matrix, he's gained so much input that he has the similitude of a perfect program/person.

get my drift?

Nope sorry,

If the Archetect was a pod born Human person then

A/ he would not need the input of the Mother... because he would know all about choice and love.
and

B/ that would mean the Machines allowed a Human to controll thier destiny which i doubt they would do since Humans tried to wipe them out once before.

Now, as for the keymaker...I like that character. In another post i postulated that he may be a very primitive worm program that had been developed by the machines. He may even have been a human written Hacker progrram from an earlier Zion resistance. or perhaps he even predated the Machine revolution. (He was the character that got me museing on the parallels between Tron and the Matrix. Tron seemed to have old absorbed programs wandering around it it)

That he can pass through any door or crack any system made him dangerous to the machines who had him bannished to the back door world with ghosts and vampires.

I dont think he was banished accidentally ie he rebeled and refused to be deleted and chose exile....I think the Keymaker is a much simpler programme than that as it only has one purpose, to bring Neo to the Source. By explaining how to enter and providing the Key

Machines may have set it up to look like he "escaped deletion" to be an Exile....but it was not a decision by the keymaker as such
