I just watched the movies stargate & stargate sg1 & the first two blxed sets for fun and there are several problems..

BY STILLS (i.e. hit pause on dvd and keep pressing shows the movie still by still because as most people know a movie is a series of photographs in motion to look like they were moving.)

-The Jafaa do NOT have pouches..does this mean Ra is not Gou'ald?

-Ras planet the one they was dying in the movie is acually a lie because SG-1 visitied a planet where the first gou'ald came from ..or rather elvolved....

-Ra is NOT a human he is a rather much resembles a Asgard..is this a asgard host or a diffrent species entirely?

-Much to popular belive Samantha carter is in the movie DVD TIME: CHAPTER 15 0:26:56. She has long hair. Or COuld this be a diffrent Charachter or is it just sci-fi/tnt was planning on a 8-10 year series , in my edition the date is near when they started sg-1 so perhapsthere are other reasons...but the credits say The producers would like to thank....Some people Amanda Tapping...some more people

-Samantha Carter states that her hair has alwasy been short when the carter form the alternate realitiy comes through. And plus military reg\ulatiobns require short hair no fdarther than the sholders. Perhaps carter didnt really join the military? maby she was 'recruited' like daniel...Or perhaps this is just another thing to be ignored.

-The tourture device is totally diffrent instead of not touchuing ther person the tourture device must touch their forhead and a sort of electrity comes through.

-Ras helmets are wrong in egyptan mytholugy he has nbot a jackal but a bird of some sort...or is this a mistgank upon the writers?

-if ra is using human soilders "See Sokar" than why werent the soilders freed when Ra used his electrity thing on them (later sg-1 toture device) or was it a diffrent form of enengry?

-The whole diffrent lauguage problem

-The whole dilaing problem

-The Death gliders fire faster and they close every time before firing

-Also the staff weapons shoot BLUISH WHITE shots instead of the regular ORANGE

Is there any more?...

Please post :alienooh:

RAS HOST

I think for stargate the movie (or maby vice versa..)
the production team took Ideas from The Arrival
And The Second Arrival

The creatures inside the bodies of humans look exacly like the creature inside ras body ...or do the creatures inside of ras body look like the creatures inside of humans....ill do a little more research.

Bingo. The arrival was produced AFTER Stargate so... The arrical must of taken the idea PERHAPS form stargate without (As a side note Kurt Russel played Cornel Jack O'neill in th eoriginal stargate movie...i knew there was something wrong with the actor!...)

In the arrival the aliens use a form of device to place a huamn skin over themselved....

Perhaps this is what Ra did instead of using the device he instead "HOLLOWED" out the body and put his conciuasness or body in it..or perhap is is just another continuity error

You seem to be forgetting the most important facet of the whole movie/series relationship:

The movie was written as a one-off (nominally), in its own universe, with no thought as to long-term development of the mythology, technology or biology. They didn't need to justify symbiotes, non-specific Egypitan deities, since they only ever had the one "Goa'uld" (which didn't even have a name!).

When the series of SG-1 came along a few years later it was inevitable that for them to create a universe in which there was a "sensible" biological basis for the Goa'uld, with reasonable use of deity role-play politics, symbiote carrying Jaffa, even more recent versions of weapons (e.g. ribbon device and staff weapon).

This is not, strictly, continuity - it is an extension, with overlaps. Continuity implies intention to continue - which was never there! The producers of the movie were never setting up the universe for the series, if they were, THEN we could say there were continuity errors. As it is, the producers of the series have to take the building blocks of the film, but consider how a long-term project will need to be based, and therefore make some changes of their. As you are so keen to point out, this MAY result in a few incongruities between the two art forms. Its all fiction after all.

So, fans can either gloss over the differences since they don't really matter in the grand scheme of things (even if, like the distance between Abydos and Earth, they're so fundamentally different there's no possible chance of consolidation), find a semi-meaningful "technical" solution (for which I've done in your original version of this thread), or get so hung up over it they have a coronary... (which it appears some fans do)

[Notwithstanding my soap-box message above, I think many of the differences can be "explained" with a little pinch of salt...]

Jaffa don't have pouches They can still be "troops", just not with larval Goa'uld. Ra was the first to use human hosts - maybe he's a traditionalist who doesn't think the symbiotes should be sullied by being "raised" inside humans. Maybe he has no spare symbiotes - since a Jaffa would need a new one every several years. He seems an isolationsist anyway.

jaffa are not "freed" by the ribbon device - they're probably not under the influence of nishtar: they're under the influence of fear and domination by someone they see as a god, and who certainly can kill them in a trice...

Ra's race was dying -
A) if you were portraying a god you'd probably be a little secretive about saying "actually there's an entire planet of people like me" since that sort of demeans your status as god.
B) Also, the race could have been dying, at that time 10k years ago. If for some reason the Unas race (later in SG-1 this was found to be the first host species) was no longer suitable (perhaps due to the addition of naquadah in the blood to control ribbon device etc) then the race COULD be dying.. i.e. unsuitable for use as new hosts.
C) As an exceptionally arrogant race, maybe the Goa'uld didn't want to go back into what they considered was a lesser species?
D) It's entirely possible that for some natural reason of development, 10k years ago there WERE only a small handful of Goa'uld left, and if Ra denied to his people that others existed, how would they know otherwise. 10k years is a long time to build the population back up again!

Ra is not human - he's never said to be!! In fact, the opposite. Ra was not human but took on human form as host. And that clearly IS true. The bigger question for "continuity" is whether the Unas species is supposed to be modelled on the creature inside Ra's host human body, or is it supposed to be some other creature. It's clearly not an ordinary symbiote by current terminology - perhaps its a host within a host?

Sam is in the movie - where? Her own character says she isn't, in "COTG". Although your reference only applies to the US DVD but I think I've tracked down the relevant bit: there are two blondish haired woman in the control room during the first dialling; SO WHAT? They aren't played by Amanda Tapping, and none are credited as Ms. Carter; indeed one is credited as "Jenny". Just because they're young, blonde and female doesn't make them Cpt Carter. Heck, you could say the beared bloke that Daniel steals the marker from to draw Earth glyph on the monitor is Robert Rothman... Reference has since been made to Amanda being credited with thanks on the Special Edition DVD - this may just be some interviews, commentary etc., since none of the other editions lists Ms Tapping, nor does any of her filmographies.

Different "torture device" - The ribbon device IS very slightly different in design - this could just be due to it being an "older model" BUT it's used ENTIRELY consistently later in SG-1: it has two modes: the "throw the victim across the room" and "torture to death". These are both seen in throne room when Ra dealks with the offendig Jaffa; they are both seen in SG-1 episodes: Apophis throws some of SG-1 in "Children of the Gods", Sam does similar in "Seth", etc (ad nauseam); Klorel tortures Daniel (again!) in "Within the Serpents Lair", Amuanet tortures Daniel (yet again!!!) in "Forever in a Day". I wouldn't think that the distance from the head would make much difference, since it can be operated at anything up to a few feet away - Ra's arrogance is likely to make him use it close-up.

Helmets - perhaps; Ra is just arrogant... so could have used any from the theology. But, I think this is one of the bigger "we're making a self-contained film based on Egyptian mythology - lets add as much as we know about it" features...

Staff weapons fire different colours - PLEASE!!! Older models. Old-style energy cell. Unrefined power supply. Different factory (they have to be made somewhere, even for Goa'uld!). How many do you want? ;)

One of the biggest you've not added is "that's right - it's on the other side of the known universe" when talking about Abydos, when in COTG Sam says "it's probably the closest planet in the network to Earth".... I don't think any pinch of salt is going to change a fundamental differnce like that... :p ;)

Amanda Tapping My version has it damn it...it was relesad AFTER the series started and yes damnit that is Rhotman! (Just kidding)

Universes galaxys ect.. Thats the most obvious one EVERYONE knows this...

Staffs Bus supposedly naquda/naqudria is an color more to the orange spectrum when "Excitited"

Got a still to post? You'd think there'd be a lot more publicity about something like that if she hads been in the movie!

You said it was a DVD... any PC with a DVD player and the right DVD software.
