Hi again. Having ground to a halt on my major sci-fi project, I've turned to one of my other ideas. Only trouble is, it isn't nearly as original.

Working-titled "Warrior", it is about a group of teenagers (18-ish) who have been implanted with microorganisms that vastly accelerate their thought processes and muscle actions when confronted with high-stress situations. This 'modification' has been applied to the teens by a military organisation set up to defend Earth against a menacing threat: self-replicating robots (think the replicators from stargate, only with more legs) called the Strig.

So, opinions and advice please: Am I being too derivative? Is the combination of ideas original enough to pass muster? Should I just give up and find another calling?

Also, out of curiosity, have self-replicators ever been the main baddies in a TV series? The Replicators in Stargate don't count - the Goa'uld are the main baddies there.

I'm taking a week's break in Germany to plan this (all 5 seasons, episode by episode, a la Joe Straczynski), so I won't be collecting any feedback for a little while, but it will be appreciated when I do get back.

Thanx, guys

Rik

Your not recycling your other ideas too much. Maybe just one or two. Writing for a teenage audience is difficult because you are in a sensitive age bracket. You can't demean their intellegence, yet at the same time you can't put certain situations like with adult series such as racy sex scenes or a lot of graphic violence. I hope for the best for you and keep in mind animamorphs though written more than a few years ago is a tough act to follow.
