Any idea how many SG Teams there are?

How do the teams break down to specialties (military, diplomatic, etc.)?
 
A trivial net search shows up two possible answers, amongst dozens, with at least one other thread on this BB:

The number is ever-growing. I think there was six planned in COTG, but they keep adding more teams. They are up to 16 at least by now.
 
Nine in "COTG", with three added during "In the Serpents Lair"... I can't remember when the others were added, but by "Ascension" we have an SG-16 for Col. Reynolds to join.
