System Lords

According to Daniel's summation in the earliest episodes of Season 1, when the Goa'uld found the human race to use as slaves and Jaffa, they found the Egyptian peoples of the early dynasties. In order to subjugate the population, the powerful Goa'uld took on the roles of the local deities, i.e. the Egyptian pantheon.

He later ("Thor's Hammer") suggests that many of the other deities from Earth history may also be based on visiting aliens, or vice versa. He split the deities into vicious rulers by domination, roles taken by the Goa'uld, and also the knowledge bearers who instilled justice and knowledge etc, a role taken by the Asgard.

Of course, I think I misinterpreted your question:

Ra - sun god of the day
Apophis - snake god of the night
Sokar - god of the dead, aka satan
Hathor - wife and daughter of Ra
Seth - chaos
Nirrti - Hindu goddess of darkness
Yu - not a god, but the first emperor of China
Cronus - Greek god of fate and time

Thanks I love mythology, and archeology, thats what i'm thinking of doing after high school, get a degree in archeology.

You may find it doesn't cover exactly what you think - Mrs P'Teppic is an archaeology graduate.

It depends entirely on where you learn your archaeology. But most schools have preferred periods of history, typically the ones they also research in. And countries like America who don't have any ( ;) ) must do something as well.... :p

Both types will have a lot of theory about general population trends, practices, archaeological theories and techniques. But many courses won't, for example, touch Egypt at all. I'll try to do a Pmail offline after I ask Mrs P'T what she did for three years...

Couldn't have put it better myself. I did a short course in Archaeology, not for any qualification, but just out of interest, and it was pretty much 80% theory work. Only later on in the course did we get to visit a dig. Because I live in Scotland, UK it was of course mostly Roman and Celtic stuff that we studied, no real work on Egyptian archaeology, other than a talk on the continuing work over there. Since I'm speaking form personal experience of a 5 month course, you may find the bigger courses will touch more on different ancient cultures.

Just wondering

I believe that Anubis is the messenger of death and that Anophis*not sure how to spell it*Is the night serpant hes god of night and was pretty much Ra's Nemesis the sun god

Anubis is the jackalgod and Ruler of Cynopolis. He is the god of the mummification.

Ra - sun god
Apep - the destroyer, god of the night
Osiris - god of underworld when he was killed by his brother seth, replaced anubis
Anubis - god of embalming
Seth - god of wind and storm, then when he turned a bit evil chaos
Hathor - goddess of dance and music
Isis - queen of the gods
Horus - god of law
Baal - god of thunder
Bast - sun goddess, changed to moon goddess
Seker - god of death, he is said to be the resurrected osiris (when nephthys (sets wife) helped isis perform the ritual of life to bring him back)

i think thats pretty much all the egyptian gods, am I missing any?

There are many more.
You also have Amon, Hapi, Bastet, ...
Btw : Baal isn't an Egyptian god.

Baal originally is a Judaic god. Maybe they knew him in Egypt too, but he's an 'import'. His origin is not Egyptian.
