3.06 Exile

From light-years away, a powerful telepathic alien, Tarquin, mentally contacts Hoshi and convinces Archer to let the ensign briefly visit his isolated planet in exchange for crucial information on the Xindi. He trys to convice Hoshi to stay and be his companion. She says no and he trys to trick her into staying by taking Archer's form then he tells her he's gonna distroy Enterprise. Hoshi is finally let go and they gain information on where part of the weapon to distroy Earth is being built.
T'Pol figures out that the spheres are what is making the spatial distortions and she figures out where one is located. While Hoshi is on the planet, Enterprise goes in search of the sphere. As they get close the distortions reek havoc with the ship so Archer decides to line a shuttle pod with the Trellium-d and take it to the sphere. With the readings that are taken of the sphere, T'Pol is able to estimate where there might be distortions and where other spheres might be.

STM says it is "A classic Beauty and the Beast tale, which pits Hoshi Sato against a wretched-looking, telepathic alien called Tarquin."

Two thoughts:

1. They have finally remembered Hoshi is a member of the crew.

2. Beware aliens called Tarquin, Percy, Lawrence and Reginald!

Just need a few Tracey's and Doreen's and they can all play happy families.

Nice to see T'Pot is firing on all cylinders already, after having her mind destroyed in each of the last 3 episodes. A most remarkable constitution, or is it Phlox's supply of creepy-crawlies?

No, T'Pol seems to have overcome her emotional turmoil as if it never happened, but then the reset button is something we've come to expect in Trek, why change it now? Ah! Because we now have a story-arc and some weekly continuity might make sense, they didn't think of that!

It did remind me a little of 'Beauty and the Beast', the interior and exterior of Tarquin's castle was definately modelled on a Disney palace!! But the story was reminiscent of several TOS episodes - 'The Squire of Gothos' and 'Metamorphosis' - that always seemed to have lonely super-powerful aliens living in exile and needing companionship.

Linda Park made a good job of making it seem creepy, as if he was stalking her.

Also reminicsent of Voyager, Think Tank, but a better realised.

This episode had the feeling of 'Quick throw something in to pad the series out!' Thee is no reference to anythig that has happened in the series, or the main story arc of destroying T'Pol at all.
Not complaining as another serving of fried Vulcan brain at tea time would have been too much and this was not a bad episode.

Nice to see that Hoshi hasn't been dropped off somewhere to walk, also nice to see she is still a hypochondriac.

I've come to the conclusion that although shuttle doors may be oven doors, the rest must be made by Tonka, they must be to able to survive the crash and subsequent roll. While the dumb schmucks standing there as it bowls towards them almost makes the reasoning for shooting at the dratted thing look sensible.
