I've been doing an online course called 'Wizard on the Web' to try and improve my IT skills which I feel that I have sadly neglected over the years.

Part of the course was that I must design a small website. I obviously chose something scifi, and have just completed this one on Cardassians.

I was restricted to webspace of 2MB because that's all I get free, (if I really wanted to I could have bought some from padders.)

There were also certain elements that I had to include, that I wouldn't have otherwise added. That makes it slow to load, but I was forced to have them. Anyway, that's all my excuses.

If anyone has time, please could they give me some feedback on it.

I have to write a report on it --evaluate it's accessibility, user-friendliness, design and layout, and any errors. Any comments, good or bad would be appreciated.

I think it hits most of the generally accepted 'Good Ideas', Dave.

Easy to read, black on white is much better than the common white on black, even if it is duller.
Introduces the subject quickly and clearly.
Links are not hidden or confusing.
And it runs as quickly as AOL ever allows.

The pop-up on opeining is a bit pointless as it stands, but I guess it is one of the required items. Perhaps if it waited for confirmation before loading the page?
But then the great unwashed would expect a busier homepage with lots of movement and graphics (and less easily read)?

I understand frames are officially frowned upon in some circles. They are a pain if trying to view on a small screen. Personally I think it is a case of how clever everything else is, large pages can benefit from improved speed.

Thanks for your reply. I hope you don't mind me using your comments in my assignment.

I agree with everything you said. The Java-script alerts were not necessary, I just wanted to prove that I could do it. The frames, audio and video files, input forms, tables and use of links were all necessary. I think frames are being depreciated in new versions of HTML.

I'm glad that you didn't think it loaded too slowly, that was my greatest fear.

I've actually viewed it in AOL 8.0, Internet Explorer 5.5, and Netscape Navigator 4.7. The text looks horrible in Netscape Navigator and the Marquees don't work, but the images are clearer!

If anyone uses some other browser I'd be interested in what they say.

I just accessed it on IE 6.0. I'm on dial-up and expected it to load slowly, as most everything else does, but it loaded very quickly.

I can't give any comments on the structure because I don't know much about it, but as someone going to a sight, I found it easy to move around in and find my way.

Only problem I had on it was I almost jumped out of my chair when the little pop-up came on LOL.

I just viewed it on IE 5.5 and it loaded really quickly.

Nice site, with my vast knowledge of web skills ;) can't really think of anyhting to add to Ray's comments.

Agree that black on white it easier to read but maybe you could play around with some dif colours just to see what it looks like. A very little blue with white generally looks good and it still easy to read.

Love all the info - must have taken you forever to do. Well done.
