frenchcitycon 2004 now!!!!!!

Maybe...

Thanks for the info, Lyam.

Maybe I'm checking in the wrong place on the site, but I didn't see any guest list or dates listed. At least not on the English language site. I can find a December sate on the French site, but that's about all.

Can't say I'm too interested at this time in paying for a con ticket when I can't even read the event copy or have a clue who might be there.

Rowan

There's a bit of info. about dates in the French language section of the site, but the American language section only seems to refer to the last con - "tickets on sale until 15th November 2003".

Am I missing something?

Best wishes,
Hatshepsut

my advice is wait for the moment tio see who is the future guest before pay your pass

Understanding...

I understand that, Lyam. It's just with so many Stargate cons now popping up around the world, it never hurts to know well in advance what's going on so a person can plan and save.

For me? Other than Gatecon, I may try and make another US con if I can. Knowing who will be where helps me make up my mind what to do. Especially if someone is trying to plan to go to a con outside of their own country.

Rowan

personally, the lack of respect for the fans doesn't encourage me to go back to a FRENCH con.....organized by these two women...

I'll try the GATECON this year ! because I'm sure it's gonna rock !

sab

yes i agree with my dear friend sab

french city con is a disaster itself !! it would be more judicious to go to the gatecon than french city con !! believe me !!

at least you want to spend a bad week end :alienooh: :dead: :dead: :dead: :dead:

here is something I'have found, a message from some french fans

The last week end of November, in Paris, the second convention of STARGATE took place for the great pleasure of all the fans. We were waiting for this week-end for months !! We were singing, smiling, happy to see our friends….this was at the beginning.
It started with one hour late. The organization for the photo cession was so bad that at the end of the day, there was 3 hours late. The day was very bad. Friend of us who had VIP pass decided not to come on Sunday so we’ve been badly treated. One of them is handicapped it was just terrible for her, there was absolutely no respect. The ambiance was not much better, we were a big group of French fans singing, trying to organize a hola wave….but the only things we obtain from the English fans ( 60% oh the audience ) were some “ quiet†“shut up†and forty people doing a hola wave it’s a bit ridiculous when we are 600 isn’t it ?
We were so nervous, disappointed , stressed that some of us couldn’t help crying…our dream was just flying away !
We thought the cocktail would be better and would make us forget about that…what a mistake.
First we were told the bid day that the cocktail didn’t take place were we all thought, but we had to take the subway and find the place by ourselves….a lot of people didn’t come because of that, just because it was not what was plan and they couldn’t go !!!!!
When we arrived we thought it was a joke. This place could hardly welcome 200 people, ( we were more that 300) there was two little rooms so small that it was ridiculous, no seats, so we had to sit on the floor, no security exit, no windows…no access for handicapped people. It was impossible to enjoy such a moment except being drunk !
We decided to wait for the actors, outside, under the rain. They arrived 1h30 late ( because of the organization…again ) and stay 30 minutes instead of the 2 hours which have been promised, ( we’re totally aware that actors are not responsible for that)
The actors were sitting somewhere in one room, with 300 fans expecting to have a word with them, even in a zoo it’s more organized and bearable.
Well we were so disgusted that we left before the end. We said that the day after we would sing and show them how happy we were, whatever the English would say….once again we were not expecting THAT.
When we arrived, determined, we were told that we had to sit according to our pass number. Which meant that we were ALL separated, our last chance to have a good day was gone. We left the room, some of us were crying, we couldn’t accept that, being separated was the worst thing ever….later, thanks to THE VOLUNTEERS, two ranks were available and to simplify the organization they asked us to seat in this ranks…this was going better.
We started to sing, ready to break down the house, but the English were not following, we had to ask them, explain them that in France when we were happy, we showed it !!! so we had a great hola wave, which really impressed the actors who probably wondered what had happen for this change in the ambiance !!!!

Martine and Françoise who were running this convention, haven’t apologized for Saturday, they behaved as if everything was going well. It was probably going well for them, we never saw them, they were with the actors or hiding we don’t know were.

They showed how much the human being could be pitiful. They broke up the dreams of hundreds of fans. VIP, Week-end, day 1 or day 2.

They ask someone to say that they couldn’t bring the situation under control because they were not expecting so many people !!! when money arrived every day in their mail box, they didn’t think there would be a huge amount of fans ? ?

They say they are beginners. Okay. So what about the last convention in 2002 ? There were EXACTLY the same problems ! so they don’t question themselves ? what could have been bearable with 300 people can’t be with more than 800 ! Even a four year child would know it !

The behaviours of these two women during and OUT of the convention is really dreadful. In spite of their show of affectation in front of the audience, in front of the actors, we know what they really are, what they really think. And we sincerely hope they’ll never know what people think about them.

Some people told us « let’s see if you can organize a convention, and do better » But that’s not the point. We haven’t asked them to make us believe for months that everybody would have a picture with Amanda whereas the week-end pass and day 2 were not supposed to have one. ( fortunately Amanda was great and the week-end pass had their picture ) We haven’t asked them to make us believe that we would share this exceptional moment of happiness, that we would remember this convention for ever. We didn’t want any promises of Castle in Spain or whatever, we just wanted what there was in the price of our tickets.

Yet, this convention have been a great moment of happiness, full of huge emotions ( in the good way as in the bad way ) and we’ll keep an exceptional memory of it. The fans, the actors, the volunteers were AMAZING. More than ever, we become attached to each of them with the feeling, --maybe unreal- that we are all a family, ready to stand by each other in the hard days.

So, We just feel sorry for these two women. Because they will never feel what we’ve felt during these two day, even if they mended their ways for the rest of their lives. They haven’t seen how each of us have help the other in his own way to dry one’s tears, to tend one’s wounds, to keep a happy smile in front of the actors when our heart wasn’t in it, our determination to remain full of hope, to try to make something exceptional with the little we have left

Finally we thank them for making us discover things which have no price, and which will stay for ever in our heart

I hope Martine and Françoise have memorized our faces because it was the last time they saw them. And now our biggest wish is that nobody will ever fall into their trap again.

This was not a French convention, but an international manufactory.
I don’t know if the actors are going to come back in France, but they won’t find us, they won’t find the same ambiance, the same smiles which would have made them come back.
We decided we would try to go to the GATECON, a convention organized by honest people who just want to share their passion with other fans.

Stargate is part of our life, it made us meet each others and we’ll be grateful all our life.

Sincerely

Well, it wasn't all bad. Some of us managed to have a good time regardless. :D I guess it depends on how high one's expectations are.

Yes, it suffered from a lack of organization, probably based on inexperience. I understand the organizers had run a very successful con. sometime before that for about 250 people. I suspect they then assumed that, for 800 people, you just had to multiply by three and add a bit. Unfortunately, logistics doesn't work like that. :(

One contributary factor was that there weren't enough fluent English speakers amongst the stewards, so tempers got a little frayed because we couldn't find out what was going on with regard to the photographs and autographs.

On the plus, there were Sarah Douglas, J.R. Bourne, Chris Judge, Michael Shanks and - on Sunday - Amanda Tapping.

:naughty: :D

***this what what we tried to fix on Sunday, I am the person who gathered and led the team of stewards who pitched in on Sunday to help. We were all experienced con volenteers who had not previously volenteered our services as the website said you had to be fluent in french to help out. Once we got there it was apparent to me thatt this wasn't the case. To the organisers credit they DID accept our help and they DID let me run things. Mind you the seating thing was NOT my idea on Sunday... The hicups that did happen on Sunday were mostly due to carry over from problems on Saturday and difficulties in communications between the stewards trying to get people into the right Queue and security who seemed hell bent on keeping everyone prisoner ( one of whom nearly pushed my own mother down the stairs and DID push another attendee) and the attendees.

I read you blag with interest, you are right about the day pass holders... sorry but we decided that moving them was just too much trouble and so they stood where they were, but they didn't get through and we moved people who should have been in front round them. They were exceptionally rude to everyone who spoke to them and we had other more important things to worry about.

I am sorry that things were as disorganised as they were, and I know a lot of people just gave up and left. All i can say is that due to the generosity of the guests a lot more poeple DID get Photgraphs and autographs with Amanda and the boys than would have had we not interceeded on Sunday.

It was really a shame as the venue and format had soooo much potentail.

Yes, as I said in my Blog, things were better on Sunday - thanks to you and the others for helping out. :)

It was a noticeable improvement. Knowing what's going on, where and when - and that you're not actually missing out on something - does make a big difference, not least to the level of stress, and thus folks don't lose their tempers quite so easily.

Was it your idea to use those post and rope barriers too, to keep the queues orderly? It certainly worked on the lower floor. We could have used a few more upstairs for keeping the queues separate for Amanda and the others.

Glad to hear that the Day 2 people didn't benefit by their bullying ways. :D They were truly awful, weren't they?!

I feel sorry for the organizers too. They must have been expecting another success lke their previous one, so they must've felt really bad to have it all go quite so pear-shaped. Hopefully they will have learnt a lot for next time, and not just think that having fewer attendess will fix it.

The guests couldn't be faulted in any way. They were all wonderful! Brilliant! :D

I guess I enjoyed it more than some because I didn't have particularly high expectations. It lowers the likelihood of being disappointed, so anything extra (like getting my arms round Michael Shanks, and a hug and kiss from Chris Judge :D ) is a definite plus.
It's a shame that, as a paying attendee, you ended up working for the oraganizers but thank you for doing so. It really was appreciated. :)

Best wishes,

Cons

It's hard to go from running a small con [200-odd] to a much larger one [500+], not counting the language barrier. I'm glad everyone pulled together to try and make Sunday a better experience for all.

Rowan

I really agree with sab and laure.

This french Stargate convention was such a disaster... such a shame and you know, I'm a FRENCH FAN and I was a VOLUNTEER!

The good thing? The actors!!! Thank you to them!

The bad thing? The organisation... such a shame to welcome fans like this    :dead: ... It's amazing... Like for example the VIP cocktail for about 250 VIP who took place in a so small irish pub in Paris who couldn't take us all! About 100 VIP, so both angry and disappointed, left the cocktail. We couldn't have space anyway.

So much people are disappointed :( .

It's REALLY OVER for me to go to a convention with French City Con.
