Detailed Illustrations of 'Gate

Hi, I'm building a 1/2 scale mockup of the 'gate to surround the door to my bedroom, and have been looking for drawings of the face, specifically of the detail in the non-moving parts of the 'Gate and the chevrons. Close-up pictures I've seen of the inner ring (not the moving ring with the glyphs) show that there seems to be an irregular pattern in the design, so I was wondering if a detailed, 'canon' illustration was available for reference...

I'd be glad to make my final illustration available as public domain once it's finished. If you're curious, I'm including an image of my progress so far:

The difficulty, of course, is getting a whole-image "close up" of a 20 foot ring... which is pretty much impossible. You should be able to get sections in close up though, from many of the DVDs, where things happen in the gate-room.

Anyway, I've been looking at a couple of close-up shots of the 'Gate and that's exactly why I was hoping somebody knew about a detailed drawing of the whole thing... If you look closely at the innermost ring, there is a design which looks like it might be a pattern at first, but on closer inspection is irregular. And I don't think I'd be able to find closeup shots of each section of the 'Gate to see the full pattern. Especially since the lower two chevrons are, well, hidden from view.

But anyway, I could probably get away with just making it a pattern, and hopefully nobody will notice. (Then again, they said that about the DHD, didn't they?)

Not all the time - a couple of years ago I decided to work out the glyphs on the chevrons, in order, for myself from gate close-ups.

Two things became apparent:
a) the gate IS shown at different orientations (I was looking around seasons 1-3) so you might be able to get some images you need...
b) the gate (and particularly iris) is sometimes shown in mirror image, presumably due to a post-prod error! :blush:

By "lower two chevrons" I mean the two chevrons of the nine, which are hidden under the ramp. The point is, it seems to me that the pattern in the innermost ring, with sort of zig-zaggy lines on the inside, and sort of short pill-shaped dealies on the outside, has breaks in it which don't look like they repeat regularly. That's what I'm mainly interested in.

As for the glyphs, I have those, thanks to the RDA fansite... But if anybody has nice vector images of those I'd be interested to know!

If i have time sometime, i have some screen shots from "Exodus" that has the lower to chevrons.. i'll try to prosess them and put them on here or something like that

In "Exodus" there is a free standing gate in the captured ha'tak, but it is possibly too far away. How about "Redemption" parts 1 or 2, when the gate in the Gateroom of the SGC is moved. That may be close enough...

Hmm.. never thought about that one P'teppic. I'll download it as well.. i do have some decent shots from exodus.. but i'll get good quality versions of redemption 1 and 2.
