Stargate Music

I just went to see the Lord of the Rings and before the movie I saw a preview for Sky Captain and they were using the Stargate theme music. I was very unhappy about that because that music is linked to Stargate, not Sky Captain. Anyone else ticked about this?

Its an extremely common practice - when the previews go out the final film's own music hasn't been written, so they have to use a different one for the trailer. I'd have said we should be honoured that the Stargate music is so powerful and dynamic that its usable for other shows.

E.g. the music for "Backdraft" was used in trailers for: Waterworld, Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park 2, Dragonheart, Hard Rain, Braveheart, The Mummy (and others);

whilst the music for "Braveheart" was used for: Titanic, Rules of Engagement, Cast Away, Enemy at the Gates, LOTR:FOTR etc.

I have seen this done before and it's never really bothered me. But with Stargate's music i was a little bothered. But, I'll get over it. It just caught me off guard in the theater.

For "Cold Mountain" the trailer's music was from "Glory." I just try not to put too much notice on it.

Yup...the studios can re-use the music for whatever they want in many circumstances. Other scores that are re-used a LOT are Edward Scissorhands, Antz and Midnight Run.

The music in most of the Master and Commander trailers was from Children of Dune, which sort of miffed me.
