My Season 5 DVDs have not shipped out from Deepdiscount. It streets today, but they still haven't shipped it. The wait is killing me. I check my email like 8 times a day to see if it shipped out, and nothing. I was hoping it would ship last tuesday, so it would arrive around the street date. Now, even is they ship it tomorrow it prolly won't arrive until next monday or after. It's killing me!

OK, so it shipped out today. Now thje checking my email obsession ends, and it replaced by the checking my regular mail obsession. Which is sort of harder, since it's like -10 degrees out (I live in Upstate NY, near Buffalo) there and we have a lock-box mail thing so I have to actually leave the house and walk a few feet to check the mail.

OK, I got the DVDs on wednesday. Watched episodes 1-10 and all of the video extras so far. Can't find the Stills Gallery on the first disc though, can anyone explain why it's not there?

At any rate...great DVDs. I think the video transfer is a bit better than Season 4, but sadly the 5.1 isn't as great as it was for 2-4 IMO. There's plenty of pans and whatnot on the front soundstage, but for some reason I am hearing VERY little rear channel usage. Anyone else have comments?

Congrtulations on getting Region 1 Season 5 Box Set DVD's. I know how the anticipation felt. I had to wait a while. Not as long as you did probably, but it was a wait nonetheless. :)

Anyway, Regarding the Gallery Stills on the first disc. They don't exist. It's just one more of the numerous Box Set screwups brought to you by MGM and whoever put the DVD art work together. Sad, I know. No Region 1 box set has the stills. Not to worry. As for the messups, Region 2 also has discrepancies and the like. The latest messup I heard and saw for Region 1's Season 5 box set DVD's is the picture opening for Meridian is actually the technology from the episode Sentinal.

In juxtapose (crud quality of special features and art work vs...) for the most part I am happy with the DVD picture quality of all the seasons.

Now the wait begins for Season Six. It streets in 5 days. Let's see when it ships...

Good luck with that shipping anticipation beckmen.

:D sweet. congrats. Did you get a confirmation email or something?

You R1ers make sure to post when you get your Season 6 Boxset with your impressions on the thing!

Hell yeah! For sure Beckmen! :rolly2: Tomorrow's the big day... I'll be watching it as soon as I get it! :D

Got them today.

Weird, they redesigned the whole menu system and everything. I sort of like the old menus better.

Over-all, almost 2 hours worth of featurettes. Too bad they didn't make a featurette for every episode.

As far as video, extras and audio goes...they best season to date. 16 hours long, 18 hours of extras, great video, great audio and all for 45 bucks!

I recieved the set yesterday.

I too prefer the old menu set up. However, I can see why they changed it a bit - the special features correlating to the specific episode they featurette. I'm really liking the featurettes. I've seen all but one of them so far. They seem a bit more comedic as well as more in depth in my opinion. I'm thinking the featurettes make up for the lack of video diaries. However, I do wonder why they didn't have a featurette for all the episodes... the way they set it up it looks like they tried to but just didn't have enough time...? Overall, I'm a happy camper. :D

45 bucks? hmmm...where'd you purchase yours?

I buy them from deepdiscountdvd.com, have since the first season. It was 45.76 to be exact, cheapest US price as far as I know.

Yeah, the Director's Series things are cool. Too bad they don't have them for every episode. Also, MGM sort of dropped the ball on not giving us the features the R2 DVDs had. The RDA Video Diary and Lowdown (Of course, they should put that on the Season 7 DVDs but I doubt they will) mainly. It's stuff like this and deleted scenes/outtakes that I'd LOVE to see MGM produce an extras disc, giving us all the extras they have left out so far. Stuff like the other 2 docus of the Legacy of the Gate as well.

OMG... I know. I'm really happy with the featurettes, but after hearing about R2s sets... dang. They've got an RDA video diary and even Teryl's. I'm still holding out hope that the lowdown will be on season 7s set, but like you I don't think it will be. I thought there was going to be the solitudes/macgyver gag/blooper on the first set, but no luck. At least there are some funny clips in the directors featurettes like Amanda on the computer screen for Frozen. LOL! Did you get to watch that yet? OMG, that was hilarious. :rolly2:

Yeah, that was pretty cool. Jack asking Hammond if he taped The Simpsons was great too.

lol... what was up with the vagina thing? that was...um...interesting.

...something about only getting it if you watch the director featurette will you get a laugh at that part. Um, yeah. I gotta watch the episode again just to compare what they said or didn't say. :D

Another thing I noticed: They could have edited the sound a little and made the commercials a lot less obvious. You can really tell where the commercials went when the music swells and stuff. By simply adding the final "sting" of music at the begining of the next scene, it would have been more seemless. Still, it's better than most TV-on-DVD shows where they actually fade to black for a few seconds before fading back and continuing it. I think they might have edited the sound and video a little in the first few episodes though. The first time I really noticed the commercial thing was "Prometheus".

Although I've started noticing it too - you could argue that their majority market is the paying market, i.e. the ones who broadcast with adverts. Any company should always pander to its biggest market... by adding the extras onto DVDs they're dealing with the smaller market too.

I think I may have spoken too soon, because I have watched up to Memento now and Promethues I think was the only episode were the commercials were really that obvious.
