An established military man in his early to mid 40's, he has been discribed, by some, as a hardened, autocratic officer with a hair-trigger temper. Sumner is placed in the unenveable position of being second-in-command to the civilian Dr. Elizabeth Weir but is an inspired leader who is committed to the mission and gives it his all.

Would have been nice if he were in more than just the first two episodes of the series. I was looking forward to seeing him interact with Major Sheppard and Dr. Weir.
