just wondering why it the Russians have The DHD that was found with the first stargate on Earth. Could not they get one from somewhere else like a world that going to bury their gate or some place that doesnt need it. Several worlds would have been great options for this (since the gate might be burried forever, ect). Even if it for some reason isnt quite the same better to Have a DHD then not at all. Maybe there is a problem with a dialer going thru the gate?

Catch-22

It's a 'Catch-22' thing. Gotta have a DHD to get to a planet that has a DHD. Remember, the US spent at least a couple of years juryrigging the computer system and program that stands in place of the DHD at SGC.

I'm still trying to figure out where the NID got a DHD to use in their exploits such as stealing the Touchstone weather device from Madrona.

And why -- after chasing them through the extra gate -- SG1 didn't take possession of that DHD, in which case they'd have one and wouldn't need the Russian one to save T'ealc in "48 Hours."

I think the writers hope we won't notice these little problems, but with reruns and DVDs something we might have overlooked in the first viewing becomes painfully obvious when seen over and over again.

Oh, well -- entertainment value.

Because they didn't have a Stargate until the end of season four and they could rescue the one which fell from the sky... and with no Strargate they'd have had to ask REALLY nicely to use the SGC...

They could have used the Antarctica DHD, though it subsequently ran out of power, according to later episodes... Or, as suggested above, they used the Antarctica DHD for one mission, whose purpose was to steal a DHD they could use, so they could return the Antarctia DHD to Area 51 stores. After all, they were using the Antarctica gate...

Because of politics. The SGC had no legal claim to the Russian DHD. Would you want to relinquish that level of technology to an "enemy"...
