which show does this story belongs to?

I would like helping with finding out which tv show/ maybe movie i remember seeing an episode of some years ago, early-mid 90's.
From what i remember the episode of this show involved some sort of life force/sentience inside electricity and this force was killing people by manipulation of things such as household appliances etc.
My first thought was that it was X-Files, but i am up to the end of season 7 on DVD and no story like this so far, it could be s8/s9 but im sure i saw it much longer ago. The only other possibilties i could think of was Outer Limits.
Any help on finding out the name of this show would be greatly appreciated.

That discription seems to bring to mind the 2nd of 2 films involving some little furry creatures that if not fed after a certain time were very docile, freindly and cute little things. Don't get them wet either. If either were done they become little monsters. But, at the moment, I can't for the life of me think of the film names.. it will come to me though.

im sure it wasn't a comedy so gremlins is out.
close encounters ive seen in the past few years and it was that
dont know about Poltergeist
im quite sure it was a tv show episode not a movie. i first thought x-files because it seemed the most obvious; also from the vague images i have of it, i think there were people investigating the deaths. Just remembering thins, the entity or whatever was in the electricity travelled along the wires (well thats how the camera showed) and activated the appliance and somehow killed the person.

The holographic detective and his nerd sidekick.
I seem to remember an episode where things were coming alive.

I am assuming it was a live action film, not a cartoon/animation

I've not seen 'Ghost in the Machine' myself.

I liked the IMdB comment on it though -- "Low Voltage"
