There are 39 symbols on the gate and they represent star constellations right??

So what does the earth symbol represent I mean what constellation(sp)? Is it a real one or one they made up because people ask me about the symbol and I usually say its for Stagrate but a lot of them then ask whats that?

I know most of my friends have no clue about how awsome the show is LOL

Thanks in advance if anyone knows the answer and I am sure someone does.

Ok, I could be wrong here but I thought the symbols represented planets and not star constellations. Maybe we weren't meant to disect it so closely?

And, yes, sadly some are deprived of the knowledge and appreiciation of the Stargate. :(

Generally the glyphs seem to represent constellations, with two exceptions:

a) each glyph also seems to be the point of origin glyph for at least one planet [and mathematically they are probably POO for many different planets]

b) there are a small number of non-constellation POO glyphs, e.g. Earth, Abydos, the gamekeeper's planet, etc.

So what does the earth symbol represent

That's explained in 'Stargate' the movie. Daniel realizes that the lines of the glyph /\ represent the great pyramid at Giza, and the circle above it represents the sun.

Later, when they're on Abydos, and Daniel is talking to Sha'uri, he realizes that the missing point-of-origin glyph he needs to get the team home is a similar /\ with three circles above it, positioned like . ' . because Abydos also has a pyramid, and has three moons.

HTH. :)

Best wishes,
Hatshepsut
