AVP: Aliens vs Predator (2004)

Re: Just Saw AVP

I was disapointed when I saw it. It really makes the Predators out to be Pussies, while the Aliens seems to be Cannon Fodder instead of the swift, intelligent and vicious hunter we saw in Alien.

Re: Just Saw AVP

I saw it a few years ago i think its a cool movie and i really like the aliens but i like the predators too,i cant decide.id rate it a ****

Re: Just Saw AVP

I just saw this again and don't have much to add to what I originally said except that as there is now a sequel, one of the Aliens must have survived - explosion didn't kill them all, Queen survived falling to the bottom of the ocean, or the Predator-Alien escaped.

Charles Bishop Wayland being the head of Wayland still bugs me more than anything else. It just ruins 'Alien' because everyone aboard the Nostromo would have spotted that Bishop was an android immediately. It's like having a Richard Branson, Alan Sugar or Donald Trump come to work in your provincial office as the tea-boy.

I realise that 'AvP' did not create this problem though, since Ripley also met him in 'Alien3' (and that was meant to be the real Wayland because he bled - or was it?) There is a new problem now of how he died in 'AvP' but was still alive in 'Alien3'. Probably as result of the same cloning they used on Ripley in 'Alien: Resurrection'. They really should have stopped with 'Aliens'.

If it helps, AVP:R starts five minutes after AvP finishes, and you're right with one of the guesses.

As for Wayland, he could have a son, or similar, and likenesses often skip a generation or two. "My, doesn't he look like his grandfather..." Even a cousin.

See, I actually liked the tie-in to the second AVP film, because the "problem" that sets up AVP:R is actually the "humanity" (for lack of a better term) of the Predators, rather than just deus ex machina - in this case, the fact that they "honor" their dead, rather than just leave them. It's the Predators need to "reclaim" the body of the last warrior and bring it back to their ship, not knowing that it's been impregnated with an Alien, that sets up the sequel - much better than just "oh, one must have escaped".

Plus, it sets up the whole "Predalien" creature that runs rampant in AVP:R, and that's just cool.

got it on dvd and watched it half a dozen times. good film but the sequel is a peice of ****!

I'd have to agree with you on that. The first A v P was a really enjoyable film. The second one was really awful and i'm surprised that it didn't kill this franchise completely.

im so glad they did this ilm was amazing and combined to of the best filsm out there for me personnelly

Okay, now everyone seems to hate this film, but when my friend and I saw it we were cheering for it just like we did for the shark in Jaws. I thought it was handled well and to this day I still think it's the best one of the two, and will even go so far to say that I would put it ahead of Predator 2 and Alien3.

I'd agree with JPT: it's not half bad. Okay, more could probably be done, not least more Aliens versus Predators (like, as per the title!) but it's a far cry (better) than the dodgy sequel (albeit one which arguably adds interesting background to the Predator species).

I actually preferred the sequel simply for one or two sequences, but both films, in a word, are pap.

I just can't look at the predator's face at the end of the first film. Poor thing looks deformed compared to the work of art that is the predator from the original film.

Thank you PTEppic, I agree with JPT as well! Very smart person, and not bad to look and smell either :)

I would have thought it would have appeased a lot of personnel with the battles it had between Aliens and the such, but alas I'm not sure what the public wanted. I thought it was at least better than the comic book I had read years before.
