Summary: Reluctantly, Markus accepts the need for an army to protect the Alliance from groups like Daniel's. He hands Kurdy the tough job of training the recruits.
Faced with the probability that his arm will remain paralyzed, Mister Smith brings his friends an intriguing message: God has agreed to prove his presence among them by granting each of them one miracle. They need only make the request at a pre-selected time and place. Unconvinced, the team returns to the problem of building up defenses while Kurdy tries to instill a sense of teamwork in his troops. Some of them get it, some don't, but the lesson will hit home when a group of Daniel's raiders crashes their first field exercises.
In the wake of the battle, Mister Smith leads Kurdy and Markus to the rendezvous with God. Waiting in a mosquito-infested bog, they learn some truths about themselves but skepticism takes over and they leave. Only Mister Smith stays to find out if God will keep his promise.
