Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to share with you the intersting happenings here in the Northwest.

Mount St Helens erupted yesterday. Its not anything major so far but the have upgraded to Level 3 and have evacuated the Johnston Ridge Observatory.

I went up ther yesterday afternoon and took some pictures of her. When I was up there nothing happened.

Here are a couple good links:

Yep. I'm here in Tacoma, WA and watching the news.

Here's the latest from USGS as of 1900 [7 PM] 2 Oct. Here's the latest listing of quakes and their magnitude and a seriously interesting time-depth map and cross-section layout of the quake distribution.

FWIW - this is the same basic pattern of siesmic activity St. Helens displayed before the big one back in 1980. I lived about 55 miles if you did it as a straight line from my front door to St Helens at the time and never was I so glad there was a big ridgeline between me and the mountain. Now there is by no means the volume and density of geological material on top of the mountain as there was back than, but she could still put on an impressive show if she decides to.

I live in Portland so if she does blow I am not too worried. Of course it depends on the winds for the ash fallout.

I didn't live out here in 1980. I was back east in PA. But I do remember the eruption. I moved here in 1988 and one of the first places I visted was another volcano Mt Rainier. :) Then Mount St Helens and I was amazed by the devastaion.

I am thinking of going back up there tommorow. Not really sure yet. There are some good vantage points up in the west hills so if it does erupt I will proably go up there with my camera.

I lived up in Seattle for a few years too. I love the city. Pike Place Market is the best. I have not been up there in a long time.

Rowan you ever eat at The Crab Pot?
