A political prisoner and leader of a dissident movement takes members of the Galactica crew hostage in a bid for freedom, and demands that a new President be duly elected.

When Captain Lee Adama recruits prisoners to retrieve an underground water supply from a desolate ice moon, several Galactica officers are held hostage by a charismatic anti-government leader.

This is the episode that guest stars Richard Hatch as Tom Zarek.

From Richard Hatch interview @ scifi pulse

Basically, I play a Nelson Mandela style political rebel and leader named Tom Zarek, who has been a captive on the Prison Barge for 20 years. In the episode, I lead a prisoner rebellion and challenge the political agenda of the president and commander Adama. Zarek is a character who is extremely motivated and will not back down if he feels in his heart that he is right.

It struck me today that every single character in this has some flaw in their character. I don't think that is a bad thing, on the contrary, it is very human, and since this show is meant to be about humans vs robots in makes sense. It also makes good drama.

That, together with a complete lack of a 'reset-button' each week, and the story begining to build momentum, layering further complications upon choices and decisions that have previously been made, is making it a 'must see' programme for me.

And there doesn't seem much chance of it being cancelled in mid-story, which generally happens to everything else that I get interested in.

Just when Adama is going to press Baltar on his Cylon detector, he backs away again. You can see his total disdain for him though.

And I'm afraid that the Boomer still on Caprica who went back to rescue Helo is really a Cylon. The Cylons said so. And I'm sure that the Boomer on Galatica is one too after last week. Strangely, no one on Galactica seems to think that, certainly not Tyrol. And the scene where Tigh catches them hugging was clever. He says something like -- you're not fooling anyone -- and I was sure he was going to say something about the bombs, but he only meant her and Tyrol.

Hehe yes me too, I was half expecting her to suddenly switch into Cylon mode and give him a kicking!!

It is good to see that the water issue has not been rsolved simply from finding water in the last episode (as it would in say any trek series) and the scale of teh fleet and its problems are also very well put out for all to see so it becomes apparant that fleeing from the Cylon`s is not the only source of threat.

They are on the bones of their arse to coin a phrase!!

The prison ship plot was a little expected (they were going to have to address it sooner or later) but well drafted into the water story. Saying that the ending caught me by suprise (but not as much as Cmdr Adama LOL)

No 6`s control/domination of Baltar too, a very distinctive turn they way she was able to fully attack his thinking literally scared the hell out of him.

At first I was suprised at the sudden twist with her pushing Baltar towards the Cylon detector which I must say I bet we all were shouting at Baltar what the answer was after the mini film!!
Staying on No6 I get the feeling there is a long term plan that Baltar is part of, that is why she helps him to keep him in the fore.

No6 and Baltar are definatley the ones to watch as this story unfolds.

Great stuff and still loving every minute of it!! And we got it first!! SCIFI doesnt show it until Jan05!! Guys your in for a treat. :D

Wow.... what en episode. I liked: being reminded about the president's cancer. Seeing that maybe No.6 is beginning to lose her grip as well (she was strangely irrational when instructing Baltar, rather than being her usual manipulative self). The abandoned city. Tom Zarek. However, I have a few criticisms;

1> When is Tigh gonna run out of whisky? We saw him check how many shots he had left last episode, and then drink one, but I don't think the bottle was any emptier this episode.

2> Is this The Adama Show? Sure, we've seen quite a lot of the other characters, but Cmmdr. Adama and Apollo seem to be getting one-man-army treatment - particularly Apollo in this episode. I would really like to see Starbuck or that guy who's the president's aide or his quasi-proto-almost-girlfriend save the day, rather than relying on 'The Old Man' and 'They Cut My Chin From Real Stone'. Why is the best pilot always in trouble while the second best (and far less interesting, until this feud he has with his dad comes to a head) gets to be the hero all the time?

3> Please, *please*, PLEASE give us some closure on either Boomer, or Baltar, or Apollo Vs. Adama, or one of the lesser romances. For instance, now that he's got the means, wouldn't it be cool if Baltar built his detector and was found to have the No.6 chip in his head? Or if they found the inevitable Cylon-aboard-Galactica-who-isn't-Boomer.
And what the hell do they want with Helo?

Just a thought(s),

Rik

The Helo on Capricia, with a spare Boomer looks like one of those social experiments that scientists use to myomance rodents and make deep meaningful declarations on the state of mankind.

On the episode itself, I truely like the drama and edginess of the show and general storyline, . Less convinced about the backstory to Zareck. Capricia and its colonies are supposed to have been an enlightened democracy.

No6's manipulation of Baltar and all that come across his path is of course excellent. Keeping her tool close to those in control by promising what they want. It must come to some sort of head soon, now that she has a warhead to pat about

Woooooo! Richard Hatch!! :)
Not compelling analysis there but I was so pleased to see him appear in this franchise and as (what appears to be) a recurring character - and a pretty damn dark one at that!
Anyway, it was a good episode. I had wondered how they were going to mine the source of water they found. The political intrigue in this episode was interesting, as was Commander Adama's willingness to endanger his son's life by authorising a strike so soon. I actually thought that was slightly odd - you would imagine a father would be a bit more hesitant but that's not the military way I suppose.

Was nice to see some of Apollo's "gee whiz" naivete take a battering in this episode too - a character step to a harder nosed Apollo in the future perhaps?
