So What Happens Next?

We have any number of stories to play with, so a little speculation might be interesting.

On Caprica: Starbuck is now largely stranded with Sharon and Helo. The Cylon raider is going to be cosey with two and definitely cramped with 3. I don't see her leaving Helo a second time, so they are going to have to find another way.
And does the arrow actually do more than stand as a symbol?

Galactica also has problems.
President Roslin is in the slammer, even if they let her out people tend to be a little wary of people who call themselves, or act like, the Messiah.
Adama, even if he survives his injuries, is on a one way ticket towards being hanged for treason. Which leaves Mrs Tigh in the place she wanted, so what effect will this have?
Enter Zarek the saviour?

While they are trying to sort that out, the vice president, appointed for just the reason they now face, is off to become the deity for Cylon religion. (If we are comparing this against the original, then Balta's mission will be to destroy the last race of man.

Which leaves us with the final little band on Kobol, led by the chief. They have no transport so they are not going to walk home, while Galactica, even if they know they are safe is not in a position to come and collect.
So perhaps they are going to put a spanner in the Cylon works?

These are my (tongue in cheek) ideas for Season 2 then:

The Cylons capture Boomer, Helo and Starbuck on Caprica. They hold them prisoner to interrogate them further about the meaning of the ‘Arrow of Apollo’. Since the Cylons became religious, they too wish to understand the ancient prophesies and to find Earth, if only to destroy the last race of man.

They also want Boomer to deliver her special baby, as the Cylon/human crossbreed must be examined for improvements that can be made to the Cylon design. They return evil Cylon twins of Helo and Starbuck, together with the Arrow, back to Galactica as their spies, using the Cylon raider.

The group on Kobol is attacked by Cylons, but are rescued by Galactica. Baltar is thought to have been killed in the melée. In fact, Baltar now believes that god is on the side of Cylons and determines to help their cause.

Martial Law is called, but President Roslin is helped to escape and becomes a fugitive hiding among her allies within the fleet. She must constantly move from ship to ship, to keep one step ahead of Adama’s men, and even some of her own friends. But she steadily builds a following, especially when news of her terminal illness is broken and linked to the prophesy.

We discover that one of the ships in the fleet has been run by a group of plucky orphans ever since they left Caprica, but no one realised until they save the entire fleet from a Cylon attack by a selfless act of courage. We discover that another of the ships in the fleet has been full of hippies who support the cause of Tom Zarek.

Adama was wearing a flak jacket, but his injury causes him continuing problems. In one episode he suffers from amnesia. When Colonel Tigh takes over, this gives Helen Tigh a chance to make her move and she removes Martial Law. With Roslin and Baltar out of the reckoning Tom Zarek is about to become the new President. Fortunately, Adama regains his memory in the nick of time and puts everything right.

A blind man called Amphiarios turns up who claims he can detect Cylons with his psychic abilities. No one believes him at first, especially when he claims that Boomer and Helen Tigh are both Cylons, yet they already passed Baltar’s test. Then Amphiarios discovers a Cylon agent during an act of sabotage, but unfortunately he is killed during the struggle that follows.

The Arrow of Apollo suddenly switches itself on. When placed in zero-gravity it now always points in the same direction. It leads them to a giant black tablet in orbit around Jupiter.

One episode is a musical with the cast singing opera. Starbuck sings “When you wish upon a Starâ€. The Chief sings “Space Oddityâ€, Colonel Tigh sings “Space Cowboyâ€.

They eventually reach Earth, but find out that the level of technology is much too low for Earth to be of any help to them. The population is a semi-nomadic people who have only recently begun to cultivate grain and domesticate their animals. They don’t even speak English, and write in runes and hieroglyphics. They are ruled by a quasi-divine King who is somehow the son of Boomer and Helo raised by Cylons. Just about then, the Alien Nazis travel back in time and take over.

I think what should happen next is the cancellation of BSG.

This first season was incredibly boring and unexhilirating. It seems that the script writers were generally in a coma reflected by the dull monotonous undertone of the series, and they came out of the come occasinally to add some much need action only to slip back into it.. The rest of the time they must have had a buffonery of monkeys writing the story line.

I say this because other than the 2 part season finale and a couple of episodes and half episodes here and there, it was the cinematographic equivalent of vallium. And there were so many unexpalined story lines and things going on that had no obvious purpose, e.g. that idiot running around on Caprica with Boomer No.2.. and starbuck flying a Psilon raider.. I'm not going to go into the 1001 reasons of why the whole concept is so ridiculous...

Anyway all the stuff that happened in season one should have happened by episode 6 and then some....

The story writers got away with murder and script writing of the lowest calibre....

I am infuriated by the season final because it makes me want to watch the begining of season 2 yet I have no desire to put myself through the whole experience again. Damn them....

Well you must have watched a different version to me. This was certainly the most exciting scifi on my TV in the last year, though it didn't have any real competition with Enterprise and Stargate getting very tired.

I don't quite understand your reasoning - you hated it, but watched it all and are looking forward to season 2 - but hope that it gets cancelled

Second that, Dave.

And Ray, please, PLEASE GOD let there be no space opera...... *quakes in his boots*

I like the idea about Roslin. I'm not sure the screenwriters will have the guts to do it (let's face it, the ingenuity required to fight a war AND a rebellion may well be beyond human capacity), but I'd love to see them try.

But I really *really* don't want Baltar to be an out-and-out bad guy. I think that says someting about the skill of the writers....

And let's not have a ship crewed by orphans. Too many children in a TV show is never good.

Just a thought,

Rik

SPOILERS

I have news of at least one element of the Season 2 plot:
Galactica Will Encounter Pegasus

David Eick, co-creator and executive producer of SCI FI Channel's original series Battlestar Galactica, offered SCI FI Wire a few more details about the introduction of the Battlestar Pegasus, a returning element from the original series, which co-creator Ronald D. Moore revealed in a panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego. "This really came out of a conversation Ron and I had early on about the episodes we had seen of the original show and what felt like they might be well served by a fresh interpretation," Eick said in an interview. He added: "The storyline that we thought was interesting was the Battlestar Pegasus. And so, naturally, we put a pretty unexpected and, I think, pretty subversive spin on it. But it's definitely going to be a fixture for a while." The Pegasus appears beginning in the 10th episode of the second season.

The arrival of the Pegasus will launch a complex story arc inspired by current events, Eick said. "It stands to reason that in a show that's all about how we're all trying to survive this horrific attack by this inhuman enemy, that the thing that we're really exploring is not that threat from without, but how it turns itself inward and how it becomes insidious and internal, and how it begins to break us down from inside ourselves," he said. "And what better way to take that idea to the next level than to introduce another human being who, on the face of it, is going to help us defeat the Cylons, defeat that third outside enemy, once and for all, but in reality serves to only remind us once again that the biggest enemy is really us?"

Eick also hinted that the Pegasus will be involved in a multi-episode arc, though its crew may not be around as long. "It's not going to go away as quickly as people might think," he said. "That's not to say that the folks involved in bringing the Pegasus to us are going to remain indefinitely. But for sure it's going to be a fixture for some time."

Dave,

Thanks for the insight, the plot is very much centered on the new approach to BSG.

I am really looking forward to the next series. If you get a date for the UK launch let me know.

Anyway keeps those bits of info coming!
