About the series:
As it is on SciFi, I assume it is not new in any shape or form. But it is new to me and with the published death of Star Trek, I need something to take its place.
Perhaps this may be it?

Set three years after the end of the fifth Babylon 5 series and inhabiting the same universe, Crusade is the creation of prolific writer/director J. Michael Straczynski.
In retreat after a narrowly defeated attack on Earth (as seen in the Babylon 5 TV movie, A Call to Arms), the malevolent Drakh release a genetically-engineered virus into the atmosphere that evolves to become lethal to human beings. The clock's ticking for a team of scientists and soldiers to find a cure for the alien plague that is threatening to decimate Earth's population within five years.
Crusade charts the fortunes of the prototype destroyer Excalibur and its crew in their quest to find a cure for the deadly virus before time runs out. Helmed by ice-cool Captain Matthew Gideon - played by Gary Cole - The Excalibur is crewed by a supporting cast that includes some familiar Babylon 5 faces.
Despite its Babylon 5 heritage, Crusade stands out with its own distinctive settings, plotline and feel. An absolute must for die-hard B5 aficionados
