Well, I'm trying my damnedest to get my name out on the market, so I was thinking about submitting some of my short stories to a magazine or an e-zine. I was wondering what your thoughts are on zines
When I finished my "novel" (which now looks like the foundation for a "novel series" I started trying to learn about getting published.
Idiots Guide to Science Fiction Publishing and many, many Internet opinions all agree that getting to the major publishers is often accomplished through an agent. Getting to an agent is often accomplished through short fiction markets.
There are many good fiction markets. I know one very well... Okay, I know several well. Below is a link to my favorite free market search tool. (I hope link are allowed on this forum--if not, Admin, please delete link.)

and do I need to copyright my work before I submit it?
Copyright is automatic when you write something and put your name on it.
Registering copyright is a process through the Library of Congress. Believe it or not, registering copyright is considered amateurish. The Publisher of your novel will do that. Publishers of print magazines will do that. Most web zines just declare copyright without registering it.

Any info would be great.
Also, can I submit the same story to one than one zine?
The info:
http://www.storypilot.com
This site is very powerful. Built from a database, it is searchable along MANY parameters.
Another premiere tool for the genre is
http://www.ralan.com . Though not searchable like StoryPilot, Ralan's has been around a long time and is considered one of the authorities on market information.
As far as submitting to more than one at a time—That is called "simultaneous submissions" or sometimes "sim-subs" for short. Consult each publication's guidelines as to whether they accept simultaneous submissions or not.
And the one tip I would give-USE STANDARD MANUSCRIPT FORMAT FOR YOUR SUBMISSION except as specifically stated otherwise in the guidelines!
