The Riddler in the 1960's TV series, Frank Gorshin, died May 17 at the age of 72.

He also voiced the 2004 animated 'The Batman' TV series. He was Dr. Fletcher in 'Twelve Monkeys', and played the part of Bele in 'Star Trek - Let That Be Your Last Battlefield'.
He had a number of other TV and film parts spanning 50 years, but will be best remembered as the Riddler.

Still hard to imagine he has been gone from us so long already! He really was my favorite Riddler.

Agreed... he brought some layering to the character, that manic phase followed by an almost world-weary depressive phase; occasional bursts of near-sanity with sheer murderous psychosis with a grin.... He's the only one I can think of that actually made the Riddler feel menacing to me, made him three-dimensional. It's a pity he's gone.

They really should put a few of the old Riddler episodes on a special single disc DVD and dedicate it to him. But almost everything is box set now days.

He was a brilliant character actor, I also enjoyed his classic stand-up on different television shows. I miss him.
