Many comicbook heroes actually found their way into popular culture not because of the comics they appeared in, but by the radio shows that accompanied them.
Most of the shows are cornier than a sack of cornflakes and nearly as flaky, but they are tremendous fun.
Almost as interesting as the radio plays were the companies that sponsored the shows- Anybody in the US remember Popsicle Pete (Buck Rogers and Popeye) or Blue Coal (The Shadow)?
