Stargate's longevity

It occurred to me recently that Stargate (the movie) hit the theatres more than 10 years ago, and we're still seeing new TV episodes produced on that original theme. It seems to have struck a chord with a lot of folks (me included) because of the interesting idea of a "Stargate", and the characters and plotlines that have gone with it.

I hope the show will be remembered in the same vein as "Star Trek", "Battlestar Glactica", or other long-running franchises.

Plus, I think the uniforms and weapons are much cooler :D

stargate may have lasted a while but for it to continue it needs something better than atlantis. what about a spin off showing the goa'uld and the politics of the system lords could be far more intresting than atlantis. plus watching big battles is always good:alienooh:

Have to say I prefer Atlantis to the more recent seasons of Stargate. But perhaps that is because I joined on the ground floor?

Sadly, it rather looks as if TPTB are intent on running the franchise into the ground, just like Paramount did with Trek. They are certainly making many of the same mistakes, especially in running Atlantis and Stargate in parrallel

Both SG1 and Atlantis have been renewed! It's definitely going to be an interesting stargate franchise ride... :D :rolly2:

I'm looking forward to seeing where they take the shows. We've seen some of the progression they've taken with the merchandise. Although lacking (especially in the earlier years), it seems like they are at least attempting to make a serious effort in promoting the show and merchandise. We finally have a Stargate magazine, we have books, comics, games (both board and console), and we even have Stargate 3000: The Ride!

It's been a long trip from where the show started. Whether or not we'll have more than 10 seasons of Stargate SG1, it looks like with the spinoff, the increase in advertising to the masses (including pop culture), and the new influx of new viewers and fans that the franchise will go down in sci-fi history!

...yeah. For better or worse, I'm optimistic. :rolly2:  :p ;) :D
